Silly Mundane Civil Rights are for Killer Cops

 The United States Constitution, as Seattle police officers pretend to understand it, extends to police an unqualified right to the discretionary use of aggressive force, and prohibits “second-guessing” by those who are not members of the State’s coercive caste. 

 Inhibiting the exercise of that entitlement, the officers claim in a lawsuit filed against the U.S. Justice Department and the City of Seattle, would be a “violation of the Second, Fourth, Fifth, and Fourteenth Amendments of the Constitution.”

 In 2012, after a Justice Department investigation concluded that Seattle police officers routinely use unnecessary force, the City of Seattle implemented a new use-of-force policy and agreed to the creation of an independent police monitor. The current lawsuit, which was filed on behalf of more than 100 Seattle cops, complains that those trivial and inadequate restrictions created “vaguely defined, newly protected classes of suspects” and violate the officers’ supposed “right not to be required to take unnecessary risks.”

 An “unnecessary” risk, on this construction, would occur any time a police officer is required to use “significantly less force than is being threatened against them by suspects … [who] appear to be or are engaged in threatening and dangerous conduct.” (Emphasis added.) Police are trained to believe that they put their lives at risk  in every encounter with a citizen, and to regard any gesture of non-compliance as an immediate and impermissible risk to that most sacred of all considerations, “officer safety.”

 At present, in most of the country a police officer who brutalizes or kills somebody without moral justification can take refuge in the “totality of circumstances” test. In practice, this is nothing less than an unalloyed entitlement to kill first, and devise a suitable rationale after the fact. 

 Seattle’s new use-of-force guidelines, the police lawsuit objects, require officers – who, as a class, are selected on the basis of limited intellectual agility – “to engage in mental gymnastics wholly unreasonable in the light of the dangerous and evolving circumstances we face every day. This creates unnecessary and, therefore, unconstitutional risks to Plaintiffs’ safety.”

 Just as unconscionable, from the cops’ perspective, is the fact that their violent actions would be subject to what they call “the very second-guessing prohibited by the Constitution” – that is, their actions would be scrutinized by people who are not part of their privileged class. This distant possibility of accountability “places unconstitutional risks and burdens on the Plaintiffs’ lives and livelihood,” pouts the civil complaint.

 Those unacceptable risks can be avoided, of course, if police officers unwilling to deal with the modest dangers associated with that vocation would pursue other employment. The vexatious and complicated conditions imposed by official “use-of-force” guidelines would be unnecessary if police officers were subject to the same non-aggression standard that applies to everybody else. But extracting aggressive violence from law enforcement would be as futile as attempting to dehydrate water.

The use-of-force approach preferred by the Seattle police plaintiffs was displayed in the August 30, 2010 murder of John T. Williams on a street corner by Officer Ian Birk. 

Williams, a partially deaf, 50-year-old alcoholic woodcarver who suffered from psychological problems, was shot four times by Birk within a few seconds of the encounter.

 Birk claimed that he had been “threatened” by Williams, who was carrying two small, closed knives at the time of the incident. The autopsy, however, documented that Williams wasn’t facing Birk when he was shot: The officer approached him from behind and to the right, and Williams was shot in the right side of his body from an estimated distance of about ten feet. In addition to being partially deaf, Williams was wearing headphones at the time he was killed

 The victim’s non-cooperation, which was interpreted by Birk as hostility, most likely meant that he never heard the demand to drop his carving knife. Since the knives were legal under Seattle’s municipal code, Birk’s demand was not a “lawful order” in any sense. 

In his testimony, Birk mentioned that he and other police are taught the “21-foot rule,” which dictates that a knife-wielding subject should be considered a lethal threat within the prescribed distance. Williams was carrying two small knives, but he wasn’t “wielding” them.  Rather than moving aggressively toward Birk, Williams was walking away from the officer: Birk said under oath that “I motioned for him to come over and talk to me. He walked away.”

 During the January 2011 inquest into the shooting, Birk stated that he gunned down John T. Williams on a Seattle street corner because he didn’t like the way the 50-year-old chronic alcoholic looked at him.

 “He had a very stern, very serious, very confrontational look on his face,” Birk testified during the inquest. “His brow was furrowed…. His jaws were set.” 

Birk’s description of Williams as displaying a countenance like that of the legendary Celtic warrior Cu Chulain (whose “eyes were dark, his expression sullen”) wasn’t confirmed by any of the several non-police eyewitnesses. 

 Although Birk and his defenders invoked the “reasonable officer” standard to justify the killing, no reasonable person would have considered Williams a threat to Birk. We know this because there were several reasonable people who witnessed the incident, none of whom perceived the pathetic man to pose a risk to anybody. This is because none of them had been indoctrinated to perceive even a momentary lack of cooperation by a Mundane as a “pre-attack indicator,” or marinated in the conceit that officer safety always and everywhere trumps every other moral or practical consideration.

  “Why did you shoot him? He wasn’t doing anything!” exclaimed one woman after Birk killed Williams.

It took just seconds for Birk to escalate an incidental encounter to the point of homicide. His reflexive reaction was to kill someone who was demonstrably harmless – and the programmed response of the first fellow officer on the scene was to commend Birk for doing so. Officer William Collins, who arrived in response to Birk’s “shots fired” report, told him, seconds after the killing, that he had done a “good job.” All that Collins knew at the time was that a fellow member of the punitive caste had just killed a Mundane — and that’s all he needed to know. No “second-guessing” would be necessary, or allowed. 

During the January shooting inquest, Seattle police brutality lawyer Tim Ford asked Collins if a closed knife constitutes a threat to “officer safety.” A closed knife is “a major threat,” Collins insisted, “just as big as an open knife…. It’s extremely dangerous, and you have to treat the person with utmost caution…. [I]f you don’t drop it, you may be shot” — even if it is closed at the time, the officer maintained. 

 “We don’t get paid enough to be hurt,” simpered Collins on the witness stand.

Detective Jeff Mudd, who also testified at the inquest, also applauded Birk’s decision: “We’re trained to shoot people who pose a threat to us.”

 The alleged “threat” posed by Williams consisted of a dirty look the decrepit old alcoholic had supposedly given a young, healthy, but lethally craven police officer. 

 Birk resigned after the Seattle PD’s firearms review board ruled that the killing of Williams was “unjustified and out of policy.” Police Chief John Diaz referred to Birk’s actions as unjustified and “egregious.” Therefore it was an act of criminal homicide, correct? Not according to King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg, who declined to file charges. Significantly, the Obama-Holder Justice Department, which devised the new use-of-force standard that is supposedly suffocating the bold and valiant officers of the Seattle Police Department, also refused to file civil rights charges against Birk.

 Seattle-area tax victims were forced to pay a $1.5 million settlement to the family of John T. Williams. The only “punishment” Birk received for the unlawful killing was his compelled resignation from the police force. According to the plaintiffs in the Seattle police lawsuit – who, remarkably, are not being supported by the local police union – this was an atrocious violation of Birk’s civil rights.

 Most people believe that the purpose of the Bill of Rights is to protect citizens against abuses of their rights by government officials. The incurably self-preoccupied people behind the Seattle police lawsuit apparently believe that the Bill of Rights exists to emancipate law enforcement officers from restrictions on the use of lethal force, and immunize them against legal, civil, and professional accountability when they kill people without legal justification.

Judge Jury and Executioner Have the Police Become a Law Unto Themselves?

Living in a free society means not having to look over your shoulder to see whether the government is watching or fearing that a government agent might perpetuate violence upon you.

Unfortunately, as I detail in my book A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State, subjected as we are to government surveillance, body scanners, militarized police, roadside strip searches, SWAT team raids, drones, and other trappings of a police state, “we the people” do not live in a free society any longer.

Not only are we no longer a free people but we have become a fearful people, as well, helped along in large part by politicians eager to capitalize on our fears. As Julie Hanus writes for Utne: “Since the 1980s, society at large has bolted frantically from one panic to the next. Fear of crime reduced us to wrecks, but before long we were also howling about deadly diseases, drug abusers, online pedophiles, avian flu, teens gone wild, mad cows, anthrax, immigrants, environmental collapse, and—let us not forget—terrorists.”

Now thanks to an increasingly militarized police force and police officers who shoot first and ask questions later, we’ve got one more fear to add to that growing list, and with good reason: fear of the police—local, state and federal agents.

Who wouldn’t be afraid of police officers who go around shooting unarmed citizens, tasering women—young and old alike, and forcing law-abiding Americans to the ground at gunpoint?

Such was the case when a Missouri police officer shot and wounded an unarmed panhandler. Texas police, during a raid on a home where music was reportedly being played too loudly, repeatedly tasered a 54-year-old grandmother, kicking and punching other members of the household. A 20-year-old Florida woman who was tasered by a police officer while she was handcuffed ended up in a permanent vegetative state and eventually died. And then there was the homeless man who was shot and killed by Albuquerque police for squatting on public land.

If it were just a few “bad” cops terrorizing the citizenry, that would be one thing. But what we’re dealing with is a nationwide epidemic of court-sanctioned police violence carried out against individuals posing little or no threat of violence, who are nevertheless subjected to such excessive police force as to end up maimed or killed.

For example, Ron Hillstrom was pacing in the parking lot of his apartment complex asking for help when four officers approached him, unleashed their tasers, and subdued him with electric shocks. When Hillstrom fell to the ground, another officer hit him with a flashlight. Hillstrom died soon thereafter.

Danny Cantu was recently awarded $105,000 after Dallas police rushed into his backyard, threw a flash bang grenade into his window, and broke into his home without warning. Cantu was thrown to the ground and beaten with his hands tied behind his back.

Denise Green is suing San Francisco police after a license plate reader misread her license plate, causing her to be pulled over by five police officers who pointed guns at her under the false belief that she was driving a stolen car. After being held at gunpoint on the ground, Green was handcuffed and her car searched before she was finally released.

The toll such incidents take on adults can be life-altering, but when such police brutality is perpetrated on young people, the end result is nothing less than complete indoctrination into becoming compliant citizens of a totalitarian state. The message is clear and chilling: any deviation from what is “allowed” will be punished severely.

Thus, when a 9-year-old Portland girl got into a fight at a youth club, instead of the incident being resolved by staff members and reported to her family, police showed up at her home, arrested the young girl, took her down to the station, fingerprinted her, and had her mug shot taken.

Similarly, when 13-year-old Kevens Jean Baptiste failed to follow a school bus driver’s direction to keep the bus windows closed (Kevens, who suffers from asthma, opened the window after a fellow student sprayed perfume, causing him to cough and wheeze), he was handcuffed by police, removed from the bus, and while still handcuffed, had his legs swept out from under him by an officer, causing him to crash to the ground.

In Missouri, a 7-year-old child was handcuffed because he was allegedly upset about being teased by his classmates. The inconsolable child, who was screaming in class because of the taunting, was taken by the school’s security officer to the principal’s office and handcuffed until his father arrived at the school.

There might be some hope of reform if only this problem of police brutality were not so widespread and endemic, if the citizenry actually had some sway with their representatives, if communities actually had some say over how law enforcement agencies “police” their communities, if police unions did not have such a stranglehold over the oversight process, if the courts were more impartial and less inclined to blindly sanction the actions of the police, and if the federal government itself had not already coopted state and local police agencies in order to transform them into extensions of the military.

In the absence of any credible scenarios that would hold the police accountable to abiding by the rule of law—our U.S. Constitution—and respecting the citizenry’s right to be treated with respect and dignity, the police have become a law unto themselves.

Clearly, the master-servant relationship upon which American government was based has now been reversed. Government agents in general, and the police in particular, now seem to believe they are the masters and we are the servants. It’s definitely time to reestablish us, the American citizenry, as the masters of our government—even if it means showing the oppressors that we will no longer wear their chains.

Some Americans have already begun pushing back. In Albuquerque, New Mexico, for example, where police have been involved in 39 shootings since 2010—with the most recent being a police shooting of an unarmed homeless man camped out in a public park—residents have begun engaging in nonviolent acts of civil disobedience to disrupt the normal functioning of the city government until the police department is brought under control. Community activists actually went so far as to storm a city council meeting and announce that they would be performing a citizens’ arrest of the police chief, charging him with “harboring fugitives from justice at the Albuquerque police department” and “crimes against humanity.”

This growing tension, seen in Albuquerque and felt throughout the country, is a tension between those who wield power on behalf of the government—the president, Congress, the courts, the military, the militarized police, the technocrats, the faceless unelected bureaucrats who blindly obey and carry out government directives, no matter how immoral or unjust, and the corporations—and those among the populace who are finally waking up to the mounting injustices, seething corruption and endless tyrannies that are transforming our country into a police state.

Where we go wrong is in painting our oppressors—whether it be the police, the courts, Congress, or the president—as absolutely evil and ourselves as powerless to resist.

Hannah Arendt, a Holocaust survivor who reported on the war crimes trial of Nazi Adolf Eichmann, a senior officer who organized Hitler’s death camps, denounced Eichmann not because he was evil per se but because he was a bureaucrat who unquestioningly carried out orders that were immoral, inhumane and evil. This, Arendt concluded, was the banality of evil, the ability to engage in wrongdoing or turn a blind eye to it, without taking any responsibility for your actions or inactions.

Coincidentally, the same year that Arendt’s book Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil was published, Martin Luther King Jr. penned his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” in which he concludes that “the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to ‘order’ than to justice.” As King points out, “We should never forget that everything Adolf Hitler did in Germany was ‘legal’ and everything the Hungarian freedom fighters did in Hungary was ‘illegal.’ It was ‘illegal’ to aid and comfort a Jew in Hitler’s Germany.”

In other words, there comes a time when law and order are in direct opposition to justice.

This tension is at the heart of the issue over police brutality, carried out by individuals who may not themselves be evil but are merely following orders, marching in lockstep with a government machine that views us as less than human. So how does one achieve justice without resorting to violence, given that violence only leads to more violence? The only recourse left to us, as both King and Arendt recognize, is mass civil disobedience of the nonviolent sort.  As King notes:

[T]here is nothing new about this kind of civil disobedience. It was evidenced sublimely in the refusal of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego to obey the laws of Nebuchadnezzar, on the ground that a higher moral law was at stake. It was practiced superbly by the early Christians, who were willing to face hungry lions and the excruciating pain of chopping blocks rather than submit to certain unjust laws of the Roman Empire. To a degree, academic freedom is a reality today because Socrates practiced civil disobedience. In our own nation, the Boston Tea Party represented a massive act of civil disobedience.

After all, as King declared, “Freedom is never voluntarily given up by the oppressor; it must be demanded.”

Call the Cops at Your Peril

prepared to die, because living free is not what they do. NH is merely a cog within the
Amerikan Stasi State, but I am referring to what goes on within NH itself, not the police state existence imposed by Washington. On May 5 attorney William Baer was arrested at a school board meeting at which he went over a 2-minute speaking rule while trying to get some explanation from the Gilford, NH, school board for assigning sexually explicit reading material to his 14-year old daughter’s English class. The school board chairman, Sue Allen, who has no legislative power nevertheless managed to create a law backed by police violence. After all if Bush and Obama can create laws by edict, why not a school board chairman? Under Allen’s edict, if a parent violates the 2-minute rule that Allen imposed, she has the parent arrested. The goon thug cop wasn’t embarrassed to arrest a parent for making a legitimate complaint during the public comment period of a school board meeting.

Remember, we “freedom and democracy” ‘mericans have free speech and protest rights. Actually, don’t remember that, because you no longer have any such rights.These rights are dangerous. They enable terrorists and extremists such as those dangerous people who don’t believe The Government.

This is Amerika today. Mr Baer offered no resistance, but nevertheless was lucky that the goon thug cop did not taser him, pepper spray him, and call for a backup SWAT team to beat him senseless or even murder him.

Last month wedding guests at at the San Luis Hotel in Galveston, Texas, were set upon
without reason by 34 crazed goon thug cops. The guests, including the father of the bride and the bride’s brother were brutally beaten and maced along with many guests including 13 who were arrested for asking, “what is going on?” The brother was so badly injured by the goon thugs that he had to be rushed via helicopter to a hospital.

The mayhem resulted from an off-duty goon thug witnessing a guest walk outside with an alcoholic beverage, thus violating the city’s “open container” law. Instead of advising
the guest of the open container law and recommending that he step back inside, the goon thug called the cops who arrived on the scene in mass and enjoyed themselves by beating up the wedding party.

No charges have been filed against the goon thugs for gratuitously beating up wedding guests. The right of cops to beat and murder the citizens who pay their salaries is now a perk of the job. It is necessary in order to keep us safe from criminals and terrorists, descriptions that are ever expanding.

Don’t expect courts to put any restraint on police and prosecutors. Dave Lindorff and Molly Knefel have given accurate accounts of the frame-up of Cecily McMillan by a corrupt prosecutor and a corrupt goon thug. McMillan was convicted on the false charge of assaulting a police office when the goon thug seized her breasts from behind. The judge, Ronald Zwiebel, enabled the conviction by preventing the defense from showing the evidence. The gullible and very stupid jurors made certain that injustice was perpetrated. In Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, Eileen Battisti, a 53-year old widow, had her $280,000 home seized by Beaver County officials and sold at auction for $116,000 because of an unpaid $6.30 interest fee on the late payment of her school district taxes. A corrupt judge did not insist upon justice for the widow but instead upheld the robbery that benefitted both the county and the purchaser at auction of her home, S.P. Lewis. Just keep in mind that “we have freedom and democracy” and we are “the exceptional and indispensable people.” Our president told us so. This designation removes you from any responsibility to other humans, much less animals. Don’t lose sight of the fact that Amerikans are so exceptional and indispensable that we have murdered seven entire countries in the new 21st century, and we are just getting started. As it is perfectly acceptable for Amerika to murder countries, how can it possibly matter if a goon thug cop murders you, your pet or your wife or husband or daughter or son?

What is so discouraging is that this article could be hundreds of thousands of pages long. I could sit here writing this article for the rest of my life, adding one incident after another, and not get beyond the tip of the iceberg.

The inhumanity of which Americans are capable and indulge in every day must scare Satan himself.

Parents arrested for protesting the assignment of pornographic reading material to 14-year olds by school boards, elderly and ill people imprisoned for feeding starving animals, pets murdered by police who are supposed to protect the citizens but instead mace them, beat them, body slam them, and shoot them and their pets gratuitously for the thrill of committing violence against life are the reason the public sector is in disrepute.

The worst people in the country are in our public institutions. This is why there is so little sympathy for the public sector unions now under attack by the Republicans. Americans look at their county commissions, their city councils, their criminal justice (sic) system, their governors, state legislatures, Congress, and the White House, and all that they see is evil and corruption.

There is nothing else there.

Americans who trust the criminal justice (sic) system are completely stupid. A case of
mass wrongful conviction that I wrote about years ago finally came to trial last November. Annie Dookham, a Massachusetts state chemist who falsified drug tests, thus sentencing thousands of innocent people to years in prison, destroying their lives and the lives of their families, was sentenced to 3 to 5 years in prison. Dookhan sent thousands of innocents to prison in order to aid prosecutors in attaining high conviction rates and in order to achieve her own rise as a highly productive state employee. State officials say that Dookhan’s fake evidence could have tainted 40,000 cases. Ask
yourself, what kind of person would destroy so many people in order to advance herself? And progressives think that the public sector is the answer.

You can ask the same question about the New York State Police and the Texas police who dropped little bags of ground up wallboard in cars stopped at random, conducted illegal searches, and arrested the occupants for drugs. Hundreds of innocents were convicted until finally one brave public defender demanded presentation of the alleged drugs and had the evidence tested. It came back: wallboard. All other public defenders had accommodated the conviction scheme and arranged plea bargains for their clients. OLDDOGS COMMENTS

Picture the entire medical profession either hiding the atrocities of their peers or directly participating by prescribing deadly drugs to cure you. How about operating on you while inebriated, and the hospital covers it up. Now picture a cop answering a call for help and he/they break down your door and start shooting you and your family, and the department supports them, the government supports them, and the media industry supports them. Stop a cop to ask for directions and wind up dead!

NOW! Answer this; how in the hell has America slipped into this acceptance of tyranny without outright rebellion? Where the hell is the outrage? Where is the heart-felt obligation to correct the wrongs of our leaders? Have we been so brain washed that we actually believe we don’t have the right to right wrongs? Do you actually believe you are obligated to let the cops murder your loved ones without recourse? Every person who accepts tyranny, creates tyranny, and that makes you as worthless as an ass pimple. If your children are in law enforcement, they may be the one that shoots you someday, breaks your arm, your head, and or whatever they can strike.

The United States pretends to be a home of freedom and democracy. In fact, the US is rapidly degenerating into a police state and a worse dystopia than George Orwell imagined in his book, 1984.

John W. Whitehead describes below the prison that is being constructed for all of us. Time to buckle up your seatbelts, folks. You’re in for a bumpy ride.

We’re hurtling down a one-way road toward the Police State at mind-boggling speeds, the terrain is getting more treacherous by the minute, and we’ve passed all the exit ramps. From this point forward, there is no turning back, and the signpost ahead reads “Danger.”

Indeed, as I document in my book A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State, we’re about to enter a Twilight Zone of sorts, one marked by drones, smart phones, GPS devices, smart TVs, social media, smart meters, surveillance cameras, facial recognition software, online banking, license plate readers and driverless cars—all part of the interconnected technological spider’s web that is life in the American police state, and every new gadget pulls us that much deeper into the sticky snare.

In this Brave New World awaiting us, there will be no communication not spied upon, no movement untracked, no thought unheard. In other words, there will be nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.

We’re on the losing end of a technological revolution that has already taken hostage our computers, our phones, our finances, our entertainment, our shopping, our appliances, and now, it’s focused its sights on our cars. As if the government wasn’t already able to track our movements on the nation’s highways and byways by way of satellites, GPS devices, and real-time traffic cameras, government officials are now pushing to require that all new vehicles come installed with black box recorders and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications, ostensibly to help prevent crashes.

Yet strip away the glib Orwellian doublespeak, and what you will find is that these black boxes and V2V transmitters, which will not only track a variety of data, including speed, direction, location, the number of miles traveled, and seatbelt use, but will also transmit this data to other drivers, including the police, are little more than Trojan Horses, stealth attacks on our last shreds of privacy, sold to us as safety measures for the sake of the greater good, all the while poised to wreak havoc on our lives.
Black boxes and V2V transmitters are just the tip of the iceberg, though. The 2015 Corvette Stingray will be outfitted with a performance data recorder which “uses a camera mounted on the windshield and a global positioning receiver to record speed, gear selection and brake force,” but also provides a recording of the driver’s point of view as well as recording noises made inside the car. As journalist Jaclyn Trop reports for the New York Times, “Drivers can barely make a left turn, put on their seatbelts or push 80 miles an hour without their actions somehow, somewhere being tracked or recorded.” Indeed, as Jim Farley, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Ford Motor Company all but admitted, corporations and government officials already have a pretty good sense of where you are at all times: “We know everyone who breaks the law, we know when you’re doing it. We have GPS in your car, so we know what you’re doing.”

Now that the government and its corporate partners-in-crime know where you’re going and how fast you’re going when in your car, the next big hurdle will be to know how many passengers are in your car, what contraband might be in your car (and that will largely depend on whatever is outlawed at the moment, which could be anything from Sudafed cold medicine to goat cheese), what you’re saying and exactly what you’re doing within the fiberglass and steel walls of your vehicle. That’s where drones come in.

Once drones take to the skies en masse in 2015, there will literally be no place where government agencies and private companies cannot track your movements. These drones will be equipped with cameras that provide a live video feed, as well as heat sensors, radar and thermal imaging devices capable of seeing through the walls of your car. Some will be capable of peering at figures from 20,000 feet up and 25 miles away. They will be outfitted with infrared cameras and radar which will pierce through the darkness. They can also keep track of 65 persons of interest at once. Some drones are already capable of hijacking Wi-Fi networks and intercepting electronic communications such as text messages. The Army has developed drones with facial recognition software, as well as drones that can complete a target-and-kill mission without any human instruction or interaction. These are the ultimate killing and spying machines. There will also be drones armed with “less-lethal” weaponry, including bean bag guns and tasers.

And of course all of this information, your every movement—whether you make a wrong move, or appear to be doing something suspicious, even if you don’t do anything suspicious, the information of your whereabouts, including what stores and offices you visit, what political rallies you attend, and what people you meet—will be tracked, recorded and streamed to a government command center, where it will be saved and easily accessed at a later date.

By the time you add self-driving cars into the futuristic mix, equipped with computers that know where you want to go before you do, you’ll be so far down the road to Steven Spielberg’s vision of the future as depicted in Minority Report that privacy and autonomy will be little more than distant mirages in your rearview mirror. The film, set in 2054 and based on a short story by Philip K. Dick, offered movie audiences a special effect-laden techno-vision of a futuristic world in which the government is all-seeing, all-knowing and all-powerful. And if you dare to step out of line, dark-clad police SWAT teams will bring you under control.

Mind you, while critics were dazzled by the technological wonders displayed in Minority Report, few dared to consider the consequences of a world in which Big Brother is, literally and figuratively, in the driver’s seat. Even the driverless cars in Minority Report answer to the government’s (and its corporate cohorts’) bidding.

Likewise, we are no longer autonomous in our own cars. Rather, we are captive passengers being chauffeured about by a robotic mind which answers to the government and its corporate henchmen. Soon it won’t even matter whether we are seated behind the wheel of our own vehicles, because it will be advertisers and government agents calling the shots.

Case in point: devices are now being developed for European cars that would allow police to stop a car remotely, ostensibly to end police chases. Google is partnering with car manufacturers in order to integrate apps and other smartphone-like technology into vehicles, in order to alert drivers to deals and offers at nearby businesses. As Patrick Lin, professor of Stanford’s School of Engineering, warns, in a world where third-party advertisers and data collectors control a good deal of the content we see on a daily basis, we may one day literally be driven to businesses not because we wanted to go there, but because someone paid for us to be taken there.

Rod Serling, creator of the beloved sci fi series Twilight Zone and one of the most insightful commentators on human nature, once observed, “We’re developing a new citizenry. One that will be very selective about cereals and automobiles, but won’t be able to think.”

Indeed, not only are we developing a new citizenry incapable of thinking for themselves, we’re also instilling in them a complete and utter reliance on the government and its corporate partners to do everything for them—tell them what to eat, what to wear, how to think, what to believe, how long to sleep, who to vote for, whom to associate with, and on and on.

In this way, we have created a welfare state, a nanny state, a police state, a surveillance state, an electronic concentration camp—call it what you will, the meaning is the same: in our quest for less personal responsibility, a greater sense of security, and no burdensome obligations to each other or to future generations, we have created a society in which we have no true freedom.

Pandora’s Box has been opened and there’s no way to close it. As Rod Serling prophesied in a Commencement Address at the University of Southern California in March 17, 1970:

“It’s simply a national acknowledgement that in any kind of priority, the needs of human beings must come first. Poverty is here and now. Hunger is here and now. Racial tension is here and now. Pollution is here and now. These are the things that scream for a response. And if we don’t listen to that scream – and if we don’t respond to it – we may well wind up sitting amidst our own rubble, looking for the truck that hit us – or the bomb that pulverized us. Get the license number of whatever it was that destroyed the dream. And I think we will find that the vehicle was registered in our own name.”

You can add the following to that list of needs requiring an urgent response: Police abuse is here and now. Surveillance is here and now. Imperial government is here and now. Yet while the vehicle bearing down upon us is indeed registered in our own name, we’ve allowed Big Brother to get behind the wheel, and there’s no way to put the brakes on this runaway car.

None in human history compare to America. It's by far the most lawless. It's the world's most egregious civil and human rights abuser.

It's done more harm to more people for longer than any combination of other nations. None match its ruthlessness.

It's genocidal legacy is longstanding. It began in pre-colonial days. Expanding America from sea to shining sea claimed tens of millions of lives.

Mass extermination became policy. Centuries of slaughter reduced America's indigenous population to a tiny fraction of its original numbers.

Ward Churchill's chilling quote bears repeating. He minced no words, saying:

Millions were "hacked apart with axes and swords, burned alive and trampled under horses, hunted as game and fed to dogs, shot, beaten, stabbed, scalped for bounty, hanged on meathooks and thrown over the sides of ships at sea, worked to death as slave laborers, intentionally starved and frozen to death during a multitude of forced marches and internments, and, in an unknown number of instances, deliberately infected with epidemic diseases."

Five centuries of slavery were horrific. Black Africans were captured, branded, chained, force-marched, beaten, encaged, and stripped of their humanity.

Around 100 million were sold like cattle. Millions perished during the Middle Passage.

Imagine packing human beings like cargo. Imagine them under deplorable conditions. Imagine them in coffin-sized spaces.

Imagine practically one atop others in extreme discomfort. Imagine poor ventilation, dysentery, smallpox, ophthalmia, and other epidemic-level diseases.

Imagine dark, filthy, slimy, bloody, vomity conditions below deck. Imagine it filled with human excrement.

Imagine women beaten and raped. Imagine claustrophobia driving some victims insane.

Imagine floggings and clubbings to death. Imagine anyone thought diseased dumped overboard like garbage.

Imagine 50 million or more lost lives. Imagine slave traders calling it a cost of doing business.

Genocidal US policy continues in new forms. Mass murder proceeds efficiently.

Technological advances facilitate it. America's killing machine knows no limits. One genocide follows others.

Countries are ravaged and destroyed. Neither world war should have been waged. Tens of millions died needlessly.

Making the world safe for democracy is a convenient illusion. America tolerates it nowhere.

Achieving unchallenged raw power drives US policy. Mass slaughtering human beings doesn't matter.

Imperial Japan was defeated many months before WW II ended. In February and March 1945, Tokyo was gratuitously firebombed twice.

So were many other Japanese cities. Hundreds of thousands of civilians perished. Millions were left homeless.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki were two of history's great crimes. Imaging incinerating civilians gratuitously.

Imagine horrific radiation poisoning. Imagine disfigurations and birth defects. Imagine the effects of what happened still being felt.

Imagine no apologies for generations of crimes. Imagine turning North Korea into rubble. Imagine running out of targets to bomb.

Imagine an uneasy armistice persisting. Imagine possible nuclear war erupting. Imagine East Asia caught in the fallout.

Imagine crazed US policymakers bearing full responsibility. Imagine Washington's unparalleled killing machine power.

Imagine ruthlessness writ large. Imagine horrendous suffering beyond human comprehension. Imagine all humanity threatened.

America's post-WW II ravaging repeats with disturbing regularity. Southeast Asia was laid waste. Proxy wars killed millions worldwide.

All US direct, indirect and supported wars have no rules. Laws of war are ignored. Rampaging goes unchecked.

America was complicit in Rwandan massacres. Desert Storm was a well-planned criminal attack.

Essential to life facilities were destroyed. Tens of thousands were gratuitously slaughtered.

Twelve years of genocidal sanctions followed. Children under age five suffered most. Bush II killed millions more.

Afghanistan remains America's longest war. No end in sight looms. The cradle of civilization was destroyed.

Free market plunder replaced it. Inside the bubble is paradise. Outside reflects dystopian hell.

Balkan wars destroyed the former Yugoslavia. They culminated in US-led NATO terror-bombing Serbia/Kosovo.

Thousands of sorties ravaged and destroyed them. Imagine considering schools, churches, hospitals and cultural landmarks strategic targets.

Imagine a gratuitous humanitarian disaster. Imagine it against one nonthreatening country after another.

Libya remains a cauldron of violence. No one is safe anywhere. Obama's war on Syria continues. Iran's turn awaits.

Expect other targeted countries to be attacked. Expect no safe place to hide.

Imagine the supreme crime of aggression. Imagine it ongoing in multiple theaters.

Imagine America's dirty handiwork. Imagine crimes too grim to ignore. Imagine genocide as official policy.

Imagine new victims following earlier ones. Imagine dead bodies piling up. Imagine young boys and girls. Imagine the elderly, infirm and disabled.

Imagine America bearing full responsibility for devastated landscapes. Imagine what desperately needs ending continued.

Imagine humanity threatened. Imagine media scoundrels cheerleading what demands condemnation.

Imagine supporting Israel's killing machine. Imagine billions of annual aid dollars supporting it.

Imagine ongoing subjugating talks called peace ones. Imagine longstanding occupation turning Palestine into a virtual open-air prison.

Imagine being denied all rights. Imagine world leaders turning a blind eye. Imagine dying for many being their only escape.

Imagine what no human being should tolerate being done to another.

Imagine Washington and Israel partnering in each other's crimes. Imagine both nations being lawless warrior states.

Imagine them using weapons causing injuries, disfigurements and other effects never seen before.

Imagine unparalleled barbarism. Imagine crimes against humanity without end. Imagine weapons able to end life on earth. Imagine possibly using them.

Imagine hubris writ large threatening everyone. Imagine overreach risking armageddon.

Washington's Ukrainian agenda reflects its latest imperial adventurism. Protests didn't erupt by chance.

They were well-planned in advance. At issue is weakening and isolating Russia. It's turning Kiev West, not East. It's plundering its resources. It's exploiting its people.

It's incorporating all former Soviet republics and Warsaw pact countries into NATO. It's establishing US bases on Russia's borders.

It's having nuclear-armed missiles targeting its heartland. 
Including Ukraine in NATO risks WW III.

America, Israel and key EU partners comprise the real axis of evil. They're out-of-control rogue states.

Former French Prime Minister Georges Clemenceau (1841 – 1929) once said "America is the only nation in history which miraculously has gone directly from barbarism to degeneration without the usual interval of civilization."

Oscar Wilde (1854 – 1900) said the same thing. He called patriotism "the virtue of the vicious."

George Bernard Shaw (1856 – 1950) called democracy "a form of government that substitutes elections by the incompetent many for the appointment of the corrupt few."

Perhaps he had America in mind. Obama's rap sheet reflects the worst of its policies. He's in charge until January 2017.

He's got lots more warmaking in mind. He plans hardening America's police state apparatus. He wants dissent silenced.

He wants opposition crushed. He wants freedom destroyed. It hangs by a thread. So does world peace.

Neocon infested Washington wages war on humanity. Obama risks extinguishing it altogether. Stopping him matters most.

Resistance is crucial. It's our only defense. Solidarity unites us. We're all in this together. We're on our own to survive.

It’s after reading articles like this that I would give all I own for the ability to write as clearly as Jefferson’s Voice, Stephen Lendman, Brandon Smith, Brandon Turbeville, and so many other great word smiths. Not to make money or fame, but to create a hole in the hearts of many readers and fill it with elucidations they would never forget. Please forgive my uneducated word fumbles as I try to explain the agony of discovering how complicit I have been in the past with this excruciatingly false patriotism that makes us convinced we were doing good by killing and other atrocities to our fellow human beings. Now that I know the real circumstances surrounding Americas’ wars, and how I, and so many others ate it up like feeding a starving man, my shame is an unbearable stench in my mind. What makes it even worse is there are still men I love like brothers should, who would reject me forever without even considering why I have changed, if they read this. Since I am not a silver tongued gymnast, I feel challenged to express my hatred of the people who created an education, and media industry that would turn normal human beings into brutal murders of other humans while glorying in a sense of rightist superiority. The past history of the United States of America is no doubt why there are so few interested in studying history. Once you learn the truth, it’s damn hard to look in a mirror. I pray my brothers will take the time to learn why I can no longer praise my country. All it took was a hand full of genius Bankers, and we became stupid brain washed monsters. At this point in our history, we must redeem our selves by sending these Bankers and their elite lackeys to an agonizing extermination. We must never again let our country become A Nation Beguiled. This is not a denial of responsibility for our atrocities, but an acknowledgement of how we were made to feel justified by being loyal to a piece of cloth. Being free from government tyranny (the Bankers Pawns) means being constantly informed and alert to subversive politicians as they attempt to follow orders from above. Never think for a moment that we are choosing the lesser of two evils, as elections are the most polluted of all their tools. The statist mentality is an admission of being totally uninformed. Only weak minded people need leaders, as the laws of nature are imprinted on an informed mind. Never believe you need a collage degree to know right from wrong. It’s written on your heart. If we continue to believe the lies of the politicians we will be eliminated.

IS IT TIME TO OVERTHROW THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES?

10-15-2013 5-26-05 PMI am not talking about the clown puppets in Washington D.C. and their minions in the Federal Government, but the true Government of the United States, the Invisible Government that appoints presidents, buys senators and congressmen, controls the system of public education, owns most of the mainstream press, the Federal Banks, the IRS and all federal agencies such as the CIA, NSA, FEMA, DHS, TSA and the rest of the alphabet soup organizations created for the sole purpose of spying on, harassing, repressing and terrorizing the American people.

The Invisible Government of the United States is not a government of the people, by the people, for the people, but a government of the banksters, by the oil magnates, for the transnational corporations.

We the People cannot wait any longer. It is time to overthrow the Invisible Government of the U.S.

A New Declaration of Independence

When in the Course of Human Events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the Earth the separate and equal sovereignty to which the Laws of Nature entitles them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

I hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights. Cardinals among these are Life, Liberty, Property and the weapons to defend those rights.

That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it by any means necessary, and to institute a new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience has shown, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evidences a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new safeguards for their future security.

Such has been the patient sufferance of the American people; and such is now the necessity that constrains them to alter their present System of Government. All civil venues of recourse to change the current state of things have been closed to the American people. So, it is time to overthrow the Invisible Government of the United States.

By slow, gradual infiltration, the Invisible Government of the United States has become a veritable imperium in imperio — a government within the government. A government that has never been elected by the votes of the American people. A government that is fully controlled by oil magnates, international bankers and CEOs of transnational corporations ensconced at the Council on Foreign Relations and its parasite organizations in the U.S. and abroad, such as the UN, the Trilateral Commission, the Skull & Bones “fraternity” of Yale University, the Bohemian Grove, the Bilderberg Group, the World Economic Forum, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and others.

Trough their puppets in the U.S. Government, the conspirators of the Invisible Government have been working hard to eliminate the sovereignty of the U.S. and the rest of the countries in this planet and fuse them into a world government under their control. They have opened the southern border to an invasion of illegal aliens and are taking steps to integrate the U.S., Canada and Mexico into a North American Union as a first step to fusing all countries in the hemisphere into an American Union. They encouraged transnational corporations to change well-paid jobs at home into low-paid, quasi-slave jobs abroad. They have destroyed America’s heavy industry. They have systematically poisoned the air we breath, the water we drink and the food we eat. They have turned government schools (also called “public schools”) into centers for brainwashing and political indoctrination. They have been sending our sons and daughters to remote parts of the planet to fight unnecessary wars that only benefit the spurious interests of global bankers and international corporations. They are gradually turning the American Republic into a communo-fascist totalitarian police state.

The history of the present Invisible Government is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Totalitarian Tyranny over the American people — a Totalitarian Tyranny they euphemistically call the New World Order.

But the New World Order is not new and will bring constant chaos rather than order — it is already bringing chaos. It is a return to the servitude of medieval times, where just two social classes existed: the masters living in opulence, comprising the 1% of the population, and the serfs, the 99%, living in the most abject economic and moral misery and with no rights whatsoever.[1]

The Invisible Government has refused to Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good. It is time for the American people to abolish this aberrant creation called the Invisible Government of the United States, try the criminals for their treasonous acts and send to prison the ones found guilty. It is time for the American people to restore the Constitution and elect new leaders who respect and protect it from all enemies, foreign and domestic.

How Can We Overthrow the Illegitimate Invisible Government of the United States?

For more than a century, the CFR conspirators have been waging a psychological war of attrition against the American people. The main type of weapon used in this PsyWar is the meme. Memes are powerful ideas that take control over your mind. While some of them are good, some of them are malignant.[2]

The U.S. military has its bacteriological warfare labs, like the one in Fort Detrick, Maryland, fully devoted to the production of lethal viruses. In the same fashion, the conspirators have their psychological warfare labs, like the Tavistock Institute, the Stanford Research Institute, the RAND Corporation, the Hudson Institute and others, where they create mind viruses in the form of malignant memes.

Therefore, if memes act like viruses, and the two main ways to avoid being contaminated by viruses are immunization and isolation, these prophylactic measures could be applied to memes as well. The best vaccination against malignant memes is to read, watch and listen critically. If you feel yourself agreeing hundred percent with everything a talk radio host, journalist or author says or writes, that is a sure symptom that you have been contaminated by a mind virus.

The other proven and effective way to avoid contagion is isolation. Viruses are usually transmitted by carriers called vectors. The main vectors for the transmission of the malignant memes created in the conspirators’ think tanks are schools —particularly government schools, the ones disingenuously called “public schools—, churches, political parties and the mainstream media.

Like ninja warriors, the main weapon used by the conspirators has been their invisibility. Therefore, in order to win this battle of the mind we need to become shadow warriors ourselves by becoming invisible to our enemies. Given the ability of the conspirators to infiltrate large organizations, the best defensive tactic is to create a multitude of small cells they cannot penetrate.

This type of small cell already exists: it is called your family, and its headquarters is your home. This is the only organization the conspirators cannot infiltrate. They know it, and this explains their efforts to destroy the family as a social unit.

In the case of education, the only sure way to avoid contagion is by not sending your children to government schools. Given the fact, however, that even private schools can be, and actually most of them are, contaminated, the only true solution is home schooling. But even the most drastic measure, no schooling at all, is much better that sending your children to public schools.

In relation to churches, if you discover that your pastor or priest has become an agent for big government disinformation,[3] stop going to church and worship at home. Even better, create a small church at home and invite a few friends and neighbors to join you by attending your religious services.

Finally, you must be aware that the two main political parties have been infiltrated and currently are under the full control of the CFR conspirators. Creating a new party or organization would not help, because eventually the conspirators would manage to infiltrate it the way they infiltrated the Tea Party.

Even the best and well-intentioned candidates running for the Republican or Democratic Party are not good, because, if elected, they will be neutralized by the party’s machinery or co-opted by the conspirators. Moreover, by giving your vote to a Republican or Democratic candidate you are helping to legitimize a corrupt, illegitimate organization. Consequently, the best solution is to create an organization they can’t penetrate. It is called the “no party at all.” Become an independent, and give your vote only to independent candidates. If you cant’ find any candidate that can deserve your vote, run for office yourself.

The best way to fight a mind war is by refusing to let the enemy’s memes get control of your mind. How one can do that? As I have shown above, actually it is very simple and anybody can do it. The only requirement is the will to live as free men.

We are running out of time. We must overthrow the invisible government right away or be prepared to become the obedient serfs of the New World Order.

The ball is now in our court. Either we hit it back and refuse to become the conspirators’ serfs, or lower our heads and accept the yoke, or perhaps our death.

The mad CFR sociopaths in the Invisible Government are finally seeing their most cherished dream coming closer to become a reality: a big war with Russia.[4]Unfortunately, we, not they, are the ones who most likely will pay for their madness.[5]

On the other hand, perhaps we deserve it, for having allowed this nasty bunch of globalist anti-American traitors steal our government and our freedoms. Ultimately, people have the governments they deserve.[6]

Life in the Electronic Concentration Camp: The Many Ways That You’re Being Tracked, Catalogued and Controlled

What is most striking about the American police state is not the mega-corporations running amok in the halls of Congress, the militarized police crashing through doors and shooting unarmed citizens, or the invasive surveillance regime which has come to dominate every aspect of our lives. No, what has been most disconcerting about the emergence of the American police state is the extent to which the citizenry appears content to passively wait for someone else to solve our nation’s many problems. Unless Americans are prepared to engage in militant nonviolent resistance in the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi, true reform, if any, will be a long time coming.

Yet as I detail in my book A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State, if we don’t act soon, all that is in need of fixing will soon be unfixable, especially as it relates to the police state that becomes more entrenched with each passing day. By “police state,” I am referring to more than a society overrun by the long arm of the police. I am referring to a society in which all aspects of a person’s life are policed by government agents, one in which all citizens are suspects, their activities monitored and regulated, their movements tracked, their communications spied upon, and their lives, liberties and pursuit of happiness dependent on the government’s say-so.

That said, how can anyone be expected to “fix” what is broken unless they first understand the lengths to which the government with its arsenal of technology is going in order to accustom the American people to life in a police state and why being spied on by government agents, both state and federal, as well as their partners in the corporate world, is a problem, even if you’ve done nothing wrong.

Indeed, as the trend towards over criminalization makes clear, it won’t be long before the average law-abiding American is breaking laws she didn’t even know existed during the course of a routine day. The point, of course, is that while you may be oblivious to your so-called law-breaking—whether it was collecting rainwater to water your lawn, lighting a cigarette in the privacy of your home, or gathering with friends in your backyard for a Sunday evening Bible study—the government will know each and every transgression and use them against you.

As noted by the Brookings Institution, “For the first time ever, it will become technologically and financially feasible for authoritarian governments to record nearly everything that is said or done within their borders — every phone conversation, electronic message, social media interaction, the movements of nearly every person and vehicle, and video from every street corner.”

As the following will show, the electronic concentration camp, as I have dubbed the surveillance state, is perhaps the most insidious of the police state’s many tentacles, impacting almost every aspect of our lives and making it that much easier for the government to encroach on our most vital freedoms, ranging from free speech, assembly and the press to due process, privacy, and property, by eavesdropping on our communications, tracking our movements and spying on our activities.

Tracking you based on your consumer activities: Fusion centers, federal-state law enforcement partnerships which attempt to aggregate a variety of data on so-called “suspicious persons,” have actually collected reports on people buying pallets of bottled water, photographing government buildings, and applying for a pilot’s license as “suspicious activity.” Retailers are getting in on the surveillance game as well. Large corporations such as Target have been tracking and assessing the behavior of their customers, particularly their purchasing patterns, for years. In 2015, mega-food corporations will be rolling out high-tech shelving outfitted with cameras in order to track the shopping behavior of customers, as well as information like the age and sex of shoppers.

Tracking you based on your public activities: Sensing a booming industry, private corporations are jumping on the surveillance state bandwagon, negotiating lucrative contracts with police agencies throughout the country in order to create a web of surveillance that encompasses all major urban centers. Companies such as NICE and Bright Planet are selling equipment and services to police departments with the promise of monitoring large groups of people seamlessly, as in the case of protests and rallies. They are also engaging in extensive online surveillance, looking for any hints of “large public events, social unrest, gang communications, and criminally predicated individuals.” Defense contractors are attempting to take a bite out of this lucrative market as well. Raytheon has recently developed a software package known as Riot, which promises to predict the future behavior of an individual based upon his social media posts.

Tracking you based on your phone activities: The CIA has been paying AT&T over $10 million per year in order to gain access to data on Americans’ phone calls abroad. This is in addition to telecommunications employees being embedded in government facilities to assist with quick analysis of call records and respond to government requests for customer location data. They receive hundreds of thousands of such requests per year.

Tracking you based on your computer activities: Federal agents now employ a number of hacking methods in order to gain access to your computer activities and “see” whatever you’re seeing on your monitor. Malicious hacking software can be installed via a number of inconspicuous methods, including USB, or via an email attachment or software update. It can then be used to search through files stored on a hard drive, log keystrokes, or take real time screenshots of whatever a person is looking at on their computer, whether personal files, web pages, or email messages. It can also be used to remotely activate cameras and microphones, offering another means of glimpsing into the personal business of a target.

Tracking you based on your behavior: Thanks to a torrent of federal grants, police departments across the country are able to fund outrageous new surveillance systems that turn the most basic human behaviors into suspicious situations to be studied and analyzed. Police in California, Massachusetts, and New York have all received federal funds to create systems like that operated by the New York Police Department, which “links 3,000 surveillance cameras with license plate readers, radiation sensors, criminal databases and terror suspect lists.” Police all across the country are also now engaging in big data mining operations, often with the help of private companies, in order to develop city-wide nets of surveillance. For example, police in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, now work with IBM in order to “integrate new data and analytics tools into everyday crime fighting.”

Tracking you based on your face: Facial recognition software promises to create a society in which every individual who steps out into public is tracked and recorded as they go about their daily business. The goal is for government agents to be able to scan a crowd of people and instantaneously identify all of the individuals present. Facial recognition programs are being rolled out in states all across the country (only twelve states do not use facial recognition software). For example, in Ohio, 30,000 police officers and court employees are able to access the driver’s license images of people in the state, without any form of oversight to track their views or why they’re accessing them. The FBI is developing a $1 billion program, Next Generation Identification, which involves creating a massive database of mugshots for police all across the country.

Tracking you based on your car: License plate readers, which can identify the owner of any car that comes within its sights, are growing in popularity among police agencies. Affixed to overpasses or cop cars, these devices give police a clear idea of where your car was at a specific date and time, whether the doctor’s office, the bar, the mosque, or at a political rally. State police in Virginia used license plate readers to record every single vehicle that arrived to President Barack Obama’s inauguration in 2009 from Virginia. They also recorded the license plates of attendees at rallies prior to the election, including for then-candidate Obama and Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. This data collection came at the request of the U.S. Secret Service. Incredibly, Virginia police stored data on some 8 million license plates, some for up to three years.

Tracking you based on your social media activities: The obsession with social media as a form of surveillance will have some frightening consequences in coming years. As Helen A.S. Popkin, writing for NBC News, has astutely observed, “We may very well face a future where algorithms bust people en masse for referencing illegal ‘Game of Thrones’ downloads, or run sweeps for insurance companies seeking non-smokers confessing to lapsing back into the habit. Instead of that one guy getting busted for a lame joke misinterpreted as a real threat, the new software has the potential to roll, Terminator-style, targeting every social media user with a shameful confession or questionable sense of humor.”

Tracking you based on your metadata: Metadata is an incredibly invasive set of data to have on a person. Indeed, with access to one’s metadata, one can “identify people’s friends and associates, detect where they were at a certain time, acquire clues to religious or political affiliations, and pick up sensitive information like regular calls to a psychiatrist’s office, late-night messages to an extramarital partner or exchanges with a fellow plotter.” The National Security Agency (NSA) has been particularly interested in metadata, compiling information on Americans’ social connections “that can identify their associates, their locations at certain times, their traveling companions and other personal information.” Mainway, the main NSA tool used to connect the dots on American social connections, collected 700 million phone records per day in 2011. That number increased by 1.1 billion in August 2011. The NSA is now working on creating “a metadata repository capable of taking in 20 billion ‘record events’ daily and making them available to N.S.A. analysts within 60 minutes.”

Tracking you from the skies: Nothing, and I mean nothing, will escape government eyes, especially when drones take to the skies in 2015. These gadgets, ranging from the colossal to the miniature, will have the capability of seeing through the walls of your home and tracking your every movement.

To put it bluntly, we are living in an electronic concentration camp. Through a series of imperceptible steps, we have willingly allowed ourselves to become enmeshed in a system that knows the most intimate details of our lives, analyzes them, and treats us accordingly. Whether via fear of terrorism, narcissistic pleasure, or lazy materialism, we have slowly handed over our information to all sorts of entities, corporate and governmental, public and private, who are now using that information to cow and control us for their profit. As George Orwell warned, “You had to live—did live, from habit that became instinct—in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinized.”

Thus, we have arrived in Orwell’s world. The question now is: will we take a stand and fight to remain free or will we go gently into the concentration camp?

Government of the Rich, by the Rich, and for the Rich: It’s Time for “Militant Nonviolent Resistance”

We now live in a two-tiered system of governance. There are two sets of laws: one set for the government and its corporate allies, and another set for you and me.

The laws which apply to the majority of the population allow the government to do things like sending SWAT teams crashing through your door in the middle of the night, rectally probing you during a roadside stop, or listening in on your phone calls and reading all of your email messages, confiscating your property, or indefinitely detaining you in a military holding cell. These are the laws which are executed every single day against a population which has up until now been blissfully ignorant of the radical shift taking place in American government.

Then there are the laws constructed for the elite, which allow bankers who crash the economy to walk free. They’re the laws which allow police officers to avoid prosecution when they shoot unarmed citizens, strip search non-violent criminals, or taser pregnant women on the side of the road, or pepper spray peaceful protestors. These are the laws of the new age we are entering, an age of neo-feudalism, in which corporate-state rulers dominate the rest of us, where the elite create the laws which can result in a person being jailed for possessing a small amount of marijuana while bankers that launder money for drug cartels walk free. In other words, we have moved into an age where we are the slaves and they are the rulers.

Unfortunately, this two-tiered system of government has been a long time coming. As I detail in my book A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State, the march toward an imperial presidency, to congressional intransigence and impotence, to a corporate takeover of the mechanisms of government, and the division of America into haves and have not’s has been building for years.

Thus we now find ourselves at a point where, for the first time in history, Congress is dominated by a majority of millionaires who are, on average, 14 times wealthier than the average American. Making matters worse, as the Center for Responsive Politics reports, “at a time when lawmakers are debating issues like unemployment benefits, food stamps and the minimum wage, which affect people with far fewer resources, as well as considering an overhaul of the tax code,” our so-called representatives are completely out of touch with the daily struggles of most Americans–those who live from paycheck to paycheck and are caught in the exhausting struggle to survive on a day-to-day basis.

Indeed, although America is supposed to be a representative republic, these people– who earn six-figure salaries and inhabit a world exempt from parking tickets, where gym membership is free and health care is second-to-none, where you only have to work two, maybe three days a week and get 32 fully reimbursed road trips home a year, travel to foreign lands, discounts in Capitol Hill tax-free shops and restaurants, free reserved parking at Washington National Airport, free fresh-cut flowers from the Botanic Gardens, and free assistance in the preparation of income taxes–neither represent nor serve the American people. They have instead appointed themselves our masters.

While Congress should be America's representative body, too many of its members bear little resemblance to those they have been elected to represent. As Dan Eggen reports for The Washington Post: "The new figures underscore a long-standing trend of wealth accumulation in Congress, which is populated overwhelmingly with millionaires and near-millionaires who often own multiple homes and other assets out of reach for most of the voters they represent."

Many of our politicians live like kings. Chauffeured around in limousines, flying in private jets and eating gourmet meals, all paid for by the American taxpayer, they are far removed from those they are supposed to represent. Such a luxurious lifestyle makes it difficult to identify with the "little guy"–the roofers, plumbers and blue-collar workers who live from paycheck to paycheck and keep the country running with their hard-earned dollars and the sweat of their brows.

The unfortunate but simple fact is that the rich sit perched at the top of the government. As Joseph Stiglitz writes for Vanity Fair:

Virtually all U.S. senators, and most of the representatives in the House, are members of the top 1 percent when they arrive, are kept in office by money from the top 1 percent, and know that if they serve the top 1 percent well they will be rewarded by the top 1 percent when they leave office. By and large, the key executive-branch policymakers on trade and economic policy also come from the top 1 percent. When pharmaceutical companies receive a trillion-dollar gift–through legislation prohibiting the government, the largest buyer of drugs, from bargaining over price–it should not come as cause for wonder. It should not make jaws drop that a tax bill cannot emerge from Congress unless big tax cuts are put in place for the wealthy. Given the power of the top 1 percent, this is the way you would expect the system to work.

Sadly, electoral politics have been so thoroughly corrupted by corporate money that there is little chance, even for a well-meaning person, to affect any real change through Congress. Whether it be the Oval Office or the halls of Congress, the road to the ballot box is an expensive one, and only the wealthy, or those supported by the wealthy, are even able to get to the starting line.

Just consider the 2012 presidential election cycle. Both parties spent $1 billion each attempting to get their candidate elected to the presidency. This money came from rich donors and corporate sponsors, intent on getting their candidate in office. Once in office, these already privileged wealthy bureaucrats enter into a life of even greater privilege, unfortunately at the expense of the American taxpayer. It doesn't even seem to matter whether they're Democrats or Republicans–they all take full advantage of what one news report described as "a mountain of perks that most Fortune 500 companies couldn't begin to rival."

Even President Obama's closest advisers are millionaires, including those on his 15-member cabinet. It is not unusual for some of them to own vacation homes, such as Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of Health and Human Services, who owns a "summer home worth more than a million dollars."

And then there are the lobbyists, the source of much corruption and exchanging of money in Washington. With an estimated 26 lobbyists per congressman, it should come as no surprise that once elected, even those with the best of intentions seem to find it hard to resist the lure of lobbyist dollars, of which there are plenty to go around.

This lobbying is in turn buoyed by a congressional lifestyle which demands that our representatives spend the majority of their time fund raising for campaigns, rather than responding to the needs of their constituents. In November 2012, the Democratic House leadership offered a model daily schedule to newly elected Democrats which suggests a ten-hour day, five hours of which are dominated by “call time” and “strategic outreach,” including fund raisers and correspondence with potential donors. Three or four hours are for actually doing the job they were elected to do, such as attending committee meetings, voting on legislation, and interacting with constituents.

When half of one’s time is devoted to asking for money from rich individuals and special interests, there is no way that he can respond to the problems, which pervade the country. Even well-meaning Congressmen face a Catch-22 where they are pushed to fundraise to secure their seats, but then once in office, it is basically impossible for them to do their jobs. The full ramifications of this are laid out by Rep. Brad Miller (D-NC):

Any member who follows that schedule will be completely controlled by their staff, handed statements that their staff prepared, speaking from talking points they get emailed from leadership… It really does affect how members of Congress behave if the most important thing they think about is fundraising. You end up being nice to people that probably somebody needs to be questioning skeptically… You won’t ask tough questions in hearings that might displease potential contributors, won’t support amendments that might anger them, will tend to vote the way contributors want you to vote.

What we are faced with is a government by oligarchy–in other words, one that is of the rich, by the rich and for the rich. Yet the Constitution's Preamble states that it is "we the people" who are supposed to be running things. If our so-called "representative government" is to survive, we must first wrest control of our government from the wealthy elite who run it. That is a problem with no easy solutions, and voting is the least of what we should be doing.

"What they don't want," noted comedian George Carlin, is "a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don't want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They're not interested in that. That doesn't help them. That's against their interests."

A population of citizens capable of critical thinking? That's a good place to start, and it's a sure-fire way to jumpstart a revolution. As Abraham Lincoln said, "Wise men established these great self-evident truths, that when in the distant future some man, some faction, some interest, should set up the doctrine that none but rich men, or none but white men, were entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, their posterity should look up again at the Declaration of Independence and take courage to renew the battle which their fathers began."

Inspiring words, but what do they really mean for those of us laboring under the weight of an overreaching, militarized, corrupt government that grows increasingly so with each passing day?

How can we change this state of affairs? The government is too big, too powerful, and its overlords too entrenched to willingly give up any of its power or wealth. The wisest option is to employ the tactics of past protest movements such as the Bonus Army, the Civil Rights Movement, and the 1960s anti-war movement, all of which used sleep-ins, sit-ins and marches to oppose government policies, counter injustice and bring about meaningful change.

For example, in May of 1932, more than 43,000 people, dubbed the Bonus Army—World War I veterans and their families—marched on Washington. Out of work, destitute and with families to feed, more than 10,000 veterans set up tent cities in the nation's capital and refused to leave until the government agreed to pay the bonuses they had been promised as a reward for their services. The Senate voted against paying them immediately, but the protesters didn't budge. Congress adjourned for the summer, and still the protesters remained encamped. Finally, on July 28, under orders from President Herbert Hoover, the military descended with tanks and cavalry, beating some protesters senseless and setting their makeshift camps on fire. Still, the protesters returned the following year, and eventually their efforts not only succeeded in securing payment of the bonuses but contributed to the passage of the G.I. Bill of Rights.

Similarly, the Civil Rights Movement mobilized hundreds of thousands of people to strike at the core of an unjust and discriminatory society. Likewise, while the 1960s anti-war movement began with a few thousand perceived radicals, it ended with hundreds of thousands of protesters, spanning all walks of life, demanding the end of American military aggression abroad.

What these movements had was a coherent message, the mass mobilization of a large cross section of American society, what Martin Luther King Jr. called a philosophy of “militant nonviolent resistance” and an eventual convergence on the nation’s seat of power—Washington, DC—the staging ground for the corporate coup, where the shady deals are cut, where lobbyists and politicians meet, and where corporate interests are considered above all else.

It is no coincidence that just prior to his assassination in April 1968, King was plotting “to build a shantytown in Washington, patterned after the bonus marches of the thirties, to dramatize how many people have to live in slums in our nation.”

King’s advice still rings true: “We need to put pressure on Congress to get things done. We will do this with First Amendment activity. If Congress is unresponsive, we’ll have to escalate in order to keep the issue alive and before it. This action may take on disruptive dimensions, but not violent in the sense of destroying life or property: it will be militant nonviolence.”

The balance of power that was once a hallmark of our republic no longer exists. James Madison’s warning that “the accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elected, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny” has, regrettably come to pass.

Clearly, it’s time for a mass movement dedicated to change through “militant nonviolence.” If not, the shadow of tyranny that now hangs over us will eventually destroy every last semblance of freedom.

“We know through painful experience that freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor,” Martin Luther King Jr. warned in his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.” “It must be demanded by the oppressed.”

Human nature being what it is, the next Stud Duck in America is bound to be the Top Dog in the NSA. Seriously folks, you don’t really think the scum bags in government are going to be good boys & girls even when they know everything they do and say is being recorded, do you?

Since we already know that video recorded improprieties have been a main tool to control establishment minions for nearly 40 years, and  is the reason for the origin of child prostitution and sex slave rings in D.C. and around the country, how long do you think it will take the Top Dog in the NSA to start calling the shots in DC?

Considering that nothing could possibly stop the putrid lifestyles of our leaders from changing, it stands to reason that they will soon acquire a Yahsa-Massa attitude toward the Top Dog, and he will soon have the entire three branches of the UNITED STATES CORPORATION by the short hairs. This will make the International Investment Banksters paranoid, and may cause them to dispatch their assassins if he is foolish enough to collect data on them.

Lesson learned: Even Stud Ducks don’t mess with vultures.

For the one millionth time, I repeat, unless some patriotic military Commander initiates a covert strike on all of the International Investment Banking Cartel, America, and all other Nations’ of free people will be toast! They have already demonstrated their resolve to kill millions, if not billions of us, so someone please make a suggestion on how else we can stop them from assuming totalitarian control of planet earth.

Now, concerning Mr. Whiteheads call to a “Militant Nonviolent Resistance”, if by that he expects us low class citizens to sit passively and let a bunch of traitorous, scumbag, wanatabe killers beat us bloody, or shoot us if we raise a hand in self defense, he is invited to sit on the front row- – – – ALONE!  We have had enough of that shit! From now on we will have a back-up armed force ready to protect us from that kind of treatment. A peaceful demonstration does not mean one side gets beat to death while the other gets paid to beat us to death. America needs to wake the hell up and admit, we have been beguiled from the get go, and there is no such thing in America as a Lawful Federal Government, and damn few State governments. By all that’s holy, we should do everything possible to avoid war with these people, but that DOES NOT ENCLUDE PASSIVELY ACCEPTING SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH. I am not calling for war on the government or anyone else, but I am telling the world I will not let someone beat me without fighting back, badges and uniforms be damned, and anyone who expects me too can go piss up a rope. If the people in power will not even listen to our petitions, the games over.

You best not be a terrorist or homegrown radical extremist hiding out in the boonies of the Texas wilderness, because if you are you may well come face-to-face with the Parks and Wildlife Department’s newest rapid deployment “Scout Team.”

The unit is made up of 25 highly trained game wardens capable of deploying anywhere in the state of Texas within four hours. Armed with AR-15s, BDUs, and kevlar helmets, the team’s mission according to the TPWD website involves border operations, dignitary protection or any form of high-risk law enforcement, such as serving felony arrest warrants or hostage situations.

As The Dallas Observer’s Brantley Hargrove notes, “the militarization of every possible law enforcement entity in America is complete.”
[The team] is modeled after what military types call a “force multiplier,” which basically means that these guys can shoot a bunch of bullets. 

“We’re steeped in tradition and very mindful of our past,” said special ops chief Grahame Jones. “It’s an important part of who we are, but we have to look to the future.” 

And the future is a camo AR. Now, if Texas truly intends to secede, it’s got its own military force ready and waiting. We’ve even got a Navy! TPWD has 564 vessels, including a 65-foot gulf patrol ship, and gunboats mounted with .30 cal machine guns.

Maybe we’re a little paranoid here, but doesn’t it strike you as a bit odd that every possible government related entity in this country – be it federal, state or local – is being heavily armed with assault rifles, weaponized drones and battle wagons?

The Social Security Administration, the IRS, the Federal Reserve, property code enforcement teams, and now Parks and Wildlife are all putting Department of Homeland Security’s multi-billion dollar budget to good use.

What, exactly, are these organizations planning for?

Do they know something big is about to go down?

Or is the intention here to strike fear into the populace by instilling in us that America is now a battlefield and the government is ready to go to war with anyone who stands in its way?

McGrath Somebody In Government Is Afraid Of What Is Coming

While the average American may have been convinced that the economy is recovering and happy days are dead ahead, few are talking about the reality of what’s going on behind the scenes. They act as if the crisis of 2008 has long passed, and whatever was responsible for it has now been solved through massive trillion dollar bailout injections.

Most fail to realize how serious of an issue we faced just five years ago, and even fewer understand how close we are to a collapse so incredibly horrific that it could change the very landscape of this country.

For those paying attention to the warning signs, it should be clear that something isn’t right.

Charlie McGrath, of Wide Awake News, weighs in and suggests that not only is the next stage of collapse rapidly approaching, but that our government is fully expecting it.

It was sold to the people of this country that bailouts had to happen, because if they did’t happen we would see pandemonium in the streets.

A recent biography by Gordon Brown, former Prime Minister of England, showed just how worried he was if the banks shut down – people couldn’t get their food, they couldn’t get their fuel, they couldn’t get their medicine… there would be literally anarchy in the streets.

We know that never happened. We know that the people of the world were scared into that happening, yet we spent trillions of dollars to rescue these institutions, namely the ones who were not regulated in the first place who caused the problem, who are even larger [now] than they were before…

So what happens when the next crisis hits? 

And it could be very, very soon. 

If you want to know where we’re going, listen to the words of the President – ‘We’re never going to have another taxpayer supported bailout.

I beg to differ. The next bailout is going to come from the taxpayers. We’re not going to call it that. We’re going to call it a bail-in.

All we have to do is look at the Financial Stability Board inside Europe to see what they did and to see the stage that’s been set for the next round of collapse… The people who have their money in the banks are going to be the ones that lose.

This is the agenda going forward.

The Associated Press confirmed in February that the Department of Homeland Security has an open purchase order for 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition. Armored vehicles have been seen flowing through the streets, drones flying through the air, the expansion of the security industrial complex.

For what? For what?

Somebody in government is afraid of what is coming.

And you can’t believe the lies of this administration of the past or the agenda that’s been put forward to have us believe that this is all to protect us against terror.

Somebody knows what is coming… Is it all just coincidence?

We know the U.S. government security apparatus has been simulating economic collapse scenarios and the fallout that would follow, and this is why they are actively implementing a multi-billion dollar control grid all over this country.

There can be no other explanation for the activities of the Department of Homeland Security, the military and governments on all levels – from local to federal.

In fact, the US Treasury Department just released a report indicating that the nation’s debt crisis could lead to a collapse so catastrophic that it could last more than a generation. Whether that happens on October 17, 2013, or five years from now, it’s only a matter of time.

We’re talking scenarios much more severe than the Great Depression.

But this isn’t just happening in America. Switzerland recently engaged in war games that simulated an economic collapse scenario, as well as an invasion by bankrupted nations and millions of refugees. In 2011, the British government developed plans to evacuate their citizens from European countries in expectation of monetary and economic crisis.

The exercises and drills may be compartmentalized so that most who are partaking in them don’t really know why, but there are those in the higher echelons of power that know very well what the end game is going to be.

None of this is a coincidence.

If you aren’t taking steps to prepare for a new paradigm – one plagued with destitution, riots, starvation and bloodshed – then you are going to be a victim of what’s coming.

Gordon Brown is right. When the economic system breaks down or the dollar collapses food, fuel, and medicine will be nearly impossible to acquire. The experience of Greeks, who saw this first hand, is a perfect example.

The only option for the government at that point will be to control the looting and violence that follows by declaring Martial Law and locking this country down.

For Police, Murder is a Time-Saving Device

“We don’t have time for this!” exclaimed a police officer as he shot and killed a psychologically troubled, 90-pound teenage boy who had already been tasered and was pinned down beneath two other officers. The victim, 18-year-old Keith Vidal, was “armed” with a screwdriver at the time of his death.

Vidal’s father, Mark Wilsey, had called the police for help when the boy suffered what was described as a psychotic episode on the afternoon of January 5. When the police arrived at the family’s home in Boiling Spring Lakes, North Carolina, they rendered the kind of “help” for which they have become so notorious – repeatedly tasering the troubled young man until one of them simply shot him as a time-saving measure.

“There was no reason to shoot this kid,” Wilsey told the local NBC affiliate. “We called for help and they killed my son.” During a press conference today (January 6), Wilsey recalled that he was helping the police try to calm down his son when one of the officers fired the fatal gunshot. In addition to killing Vidal, the officer imperiled the lives of several other people – including two of his comrades at risk. He later pointed his gun at Wilsey when the father reacted with predictable pain and outrage over the murder of his son.

There was “no reason” for deadly force, Wilsey points out. “They had Tasers on them, and they didn’t have to even tase him, they could have just talked to him, talked to him another ten minutes.”

Speaking during the press conference, Vidal’s mother urged parents of emotionally troubled children not to place the lives of their loved ones at risk by inviting the intervention of armed strangers clothed in the supposed authority to kill: “Do not call the police department for help – because your son will probably be killed, like mine was.”

This is not the first documented instance in which a police officer has murdered somebody simply because he was in a hurry. During a 2009 incident in a restaurant parking lot, Everett, Washington Police Officer Troy Meade shot and killed Niles Meservey, an intoxicated man whose Corvette had been boxed in by three cars and a chain-link fence.

For about a half-hour, Meade attempted to get Meservey to leave the car. After a taser was used on the 51-year-old man, the driver started his car, which lurched forward into the fence. Although Meservey was able to inflict property damage, he was no threat to anyone. But his intractable non-compliance infuriated Meade to the point of murderous rage.

“Time to end this – enough is enough!” bellowed Meade as he pulled the trigger seven times. Those words were heard by a fellow officer, Steve Klocker, who repeated them in sworn courtroom testimony. Klocker’s defiance of the “Blue Wall of Silence” prompted the political clique afflicting Everett to attempt undermining Klocker’s reliability as a witness – something it wouldn’t have done if the officer had been testifying against a Mundane.

Meade was indicted for second-degree murderer and first-degree manslaughter. The jury that heard the case dismissed the officer’s self-defense claim, which means that the killing was unlawful. Despite the fact that there was no significant material dispute regarding the details of the incident, the jury also acquitted the killer on both counts, owing to the fact that at the time of the killing he was decked out in a costume that confers the right to kill, and immunizes its wearer against legal liability for criminal actions. Meade was set free to resume his career as a dispenser of violence on behalf of the State.

The murder of Niles Meservey, like that of Keith Vidal, began with a helpful phone call from someone concerned about a person not fully in control of his faculties, either because of intoxication or an emotional disturbance. If you believe the best way to help people in such a condition is to kill them, by all means, call the police.

UPDATE:

Although the killer has not been identified, Detective Byron Vassey of the neighboring Southport Police Department has been put on “administrative leave” (that is, paid vacation). Vassey arrived on the scene about fourteen minutes after the first officers had responded to the family’s improvident call to the police. Those officers from the Boiling Spring Lakes PD had already informed dispatch that the situation was under control. Seventy seconds after Vassey’s arrival, he radioed dispatch to inform them that “he had to fire shots at the subject in order to defend himself,” summarizes NBC affiliate WECT.

Checkpoints, Warrantless Searches Become a Way of Life

While some “journalists” would have you believe the biggest stories of 2013 were about twerking celebrities and over-hyped real-life courtroom sagas, much bigger events were happening with far more lasting national significance.  The foundation of an American police state is already laid and making its existence known, while most of the country remains blissfully focused on sports, reality shows, establishment pseudo-news, and other distractions.

It would require an encyclopedia to cover all of the injustices, scandals, and brutality that took place in 2013.  This list is designed to illustrate certain trends and significant stories from the past year.  If Americans don’t fix their apathy and disengagement toward causes that matter, we can expect these trends to continue toward their logical conclusions: an increasingly repressive police state dominating the lives people inside these borders and beyond.

The state of the 4th amendment is in truly bad shape, given the prevalence of warrantless checkpoints and warrantless bag searches being used all around the country for various reasons. No longer restricted to airport terminals, the unconstitutional tactics are now being used in subways, bus stations, on bridges, at parades, and anywhere else the government can get away with them. This is facilitated by the palpable fear of terrorism and with financial incentives from the federal government.

In what was dubbed “Operation Independence,” the federal government along with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department staged a high-visibility terror drill in the LA subway this July. Deputies dressed in paramilitary garb teamed up with agents from the TSA and DHS to require travelers to open up their bags and prove their innocence before being allowed to commute. These tactics have sadly become commonplace in many major cities.

Security measures at major events have gotten increasingly invasive. At the annual ‘Mackinac Bridge Walk’ in St. Ignace, Michigan, up to 40,000 walkers were subjected to warrantless bag searches in the interest of event security. In Chicago, warrantless bag searches were performed on public sidewalks during a celebratory parade for the Blackhawks’ hockey championship, and were again performed along the 26-mile track of theChicago Marathon. A famous parade in Pasadena, California, is used as an excuse to search the interiors of hundreds of vehicles who wish to park on public streets.

The “stop and frisk” phenomenon was alive and well in 2013. The appalling practice involves police stopping pedestrians, usually pushing them up against a wall and then patting them down, searching their pockets, and opening up their purses and bags. The practice has been notorious in New York City, which not only has aggressive enforcement on the streets but also allows cops to roam around inside private apartment buildings and search tenants. Stop and frisk is also work in Philadelphia,Detroitnorthwest Indiana, and other areas.

Sobriety checkpoints have been around a long time, but are increasing in offensiveness. Checks for sobriety have turned into opportunities tosearch people’s vehicles. People are sometimes being forced off the roads into parking lots and sniffed with dogs in order to be permitted to continue driving down public streets. Some sobriety checkpoints are being dubbed “no refusal” because anyone who refuses to prove their innocence through a breath test will be strapped down to a table and have their blood forcibly taken from them. New saliva swab analyzers now allows police to detect and arrest people based on on them having things like marijuana and prescription drugs in their systems while driving.

Not to be outdone by local cops, the federal government is setting up checkpoints in reportedly 60 communities to take blood and saliva samples from drivers in a multi-million dollar “survey.”

The reasons for warrantless searches is only limited by the imaginations of the police. There are now regular license and vehicle inspectioncheckpoints, fruit possession checkpoints, firework possessioncheckpoints, tampon possession searches, searches for canned beverages, roadside smog checkpoints, and more.

DoD Program 1033 Militarizing Local Police Departments

Those who are paying attention are seeing the constant notices of military equipment from overseas war-zones being dispersed to domestic police departments.   These giveaways are usually in the form of armored vehicles (as far as the public knows).  This is all made possible by the Defense Department’s Program 1033.  In place since 1997, the program allows the DOD to give away the equipment — often free of charge — to local police departments who apply for the equipment grants.

This year has been the year of the MRAP, or Mine Resistant Armor Protected vehicle.  For the first time these fighting vehicles, costing an upwards of $600,000 each, are being sent out to American cops, and in rapid fashion.  The hulking trucks, which come with armor plating, gun ports, bullet-proof glass, and a gun turret on top, end up being used on SWAT raids in residential America.

The program dispersed more than half a billion dollars worth of equipment in 2012, and 2013 is expected to keep that pace, if not exceed it.  There is no oversight over Program 1033 and the Department of Defense has never been audited, meaning there is overwhelming room for fraud and abuse.  The U.S. taxpayers have been burdened with purchasing this equipment and now it is being given away without compensation; without auction.  And no one really knows the full scope of the project.

One does not have to look far for examples of local departments becoming militarized.   MRAP acquisitions have taken place in every state, the latest including AlabamaIndiana,  TexasIdahoCaliforniaNew York,North CarolinaSouth CarolinaMinnesotaMichiganIllinois, and Nevada.

To understand the implications of what a militarized police force is capable of, consider the extravagant anti-terror drill performed by LAPD this year at the National Homeland Security Association’s conference in June.  Gunfire echoed through downtown Los Angeles, bombs exploded, and helicopters swooped low among tall office buildings in a demonstrated response to two terrorists in a pickup truck.  Paramilitary police pulled up in a bomb-dropping armored vehicle, and engaged in a mock firefight.  Guests from around the nation and world attended the conference to marvel at militarized law enforcement in action.  The performance was funded by the federal government and was designed to inspire more departments to become militarized.   Footage from the drill is available below:

The TSA Continues to Expand Its Reach

The Transportation Security Administration had another year characterized by abuse, theft, and violations of civil rights.  There was a steady stream of children being tormentedproperty being stolen, andgenitals being grabbed this year, as usual.  Americans are being searched without probable cause or warrants while being threatened with arrest over loudspeakers if they talk back to the checkpoint agents.  There are too many of these stories to count and this behavior has been standard operating procedure since the TSA was created.  Some of the agency’s recent advancements deserve to be mentioned, however.

Checkpoints are now involving a much deeper look into traveler’s private personal information.  Nothing short of a criminal background check will allow a person to fly in America anymore.  The new security programinvolves gaining access to travelers’ private employment information, vehicle registrations, travel history, property ownership records, physical characteristics, tax identification numbers, past travel itineraries, law enforcement information, “intelligence” information, passport numbers, frequent flier information, and other “identifiers” linked to DHS databases.  The TSA is allowing people to purchase the title of “trusted traveler” if they willingly submit their biometric fingerprint scans into a FBI database, submit to a criminal background check, and pay the TSA a fee of $85.00 for a five-year PreCheck membership.

The TSA has evidently expanded its reach to parking lots this year, after encouraging and overseeing airport security plans that involve opening up parked cars and performing warrantless searches on their interiors.  Although the TSA may not be directly involved with performing these searches, they are approved by the TSA and some airports claim they are mandated by the TSA.

The response of may Americans is to avoid the TSA by ceasing air travel.  This is a shortsighted solution, as the TSA has never been bound to airports.  As one TSA official pointed out, “We are not the Airport Security Administration.”  Indeed, avoiding the TSA became more challenging in 2013, and is bound to become more difficult in the future.

TSA agents are not making regular appearances on other modes of transportation.  Special armed TSA units — known as VIPR teams — are showing up at public venues, sporting events, train terminals, music festivals, rodeos, highway weigh stations in order to “surprise” the terrorists with “suspicionless” searches.  “The security at airports has increased so the bad guys are now traveling on the trains and buses,” said TSA agent George Robinson at a surprise TSA “Spot Checks” at an Austin railway.  The TSA was active in and around the Superbowl this year, one of many places many never expected to see the TSA operating.

To soften their villainous image, the TSA has been spending taxpayer money to produce cartoons designed to propagandize children into accepting warrantless checkpoints.  Getting searched by strangers in uniformed is presented as fun and exciting — and vital to safety.

The Surveillance State, Revealed

This year we experienced a lot of mainstream discussion about the breadth of the Federal Government’s domestic surveillance grid, in large part due to the revelations from NSA contractor-gone-rogue, Edward Snowden.  Snowden discovered over the course of his employment with the NSA that the American public was completely unaware of the extent of spying being performed by the government on its own people, and felt compelled to go public.  In June, Snowden went to journalist Glenn Greenwald with up to 200,000 NSA documents to prove what the government was up to.  Greenwald has since released a series of damning articles exposing the NSA spy grid, which have received international attention.

Now officially charged by the U.S. government with espionage, Snowden has been in hiding overseas for over 6 months.  But his leaks have provided valuable insight into the operation of the government.  Its a bit ironic that the man exposing the spy program is labeled the spy, but I digress.

Greenwald’s articles have revealed that the NSA’s modus operandi is to “collect it all,” meaning every collectible form of communication or data. To this end, the NSA has been utilizing what it calls the Prism program, under which the agency has obtained direct access to the systems of Google, Facebook, Apple and other US internet giants.  With this access to internet traffic, the NSA uses a program called XKeyscore, which is surveillance tool that collects “nearly everything a user does on the internet.”  One presentation of XKeyscore claims the program collects the content of emails, websites visited and searches, as well as their metadata.

“I, sitting at my desk,” Snowden said, could “wiretap anyone, from you or your accountant, to a federal judge or even the president, if I had a personal email”.

Another recent leak revealed that the NSA is “getting vast volumes” of records of individual’s physical locations from their cell phones — faster than it can process and store — as the agency surveils the nation’s mobile phone networks.  It goes deeper than that though.  Greenwald reported that the NSA is collecting information about phone calls from millions of Americans daily.  Such information includes the numbers of both parties on the call, their locations, the time, and the duration of all calls made on the network.

Border Security as Oppressive as Ever

The War on Drugs has been the source of incomprehensible levels of injustice, government corruption, brutality, and abuse for decades in the United States.   Although year 2013 represents no marked difference from the status quo, these Drug War abuses constitute far too great a threat to go unmentioned in this list.

We saw countless people imprisoned for non-violent, victimless crimes.  I say countless because the numbers are truly unknown when considering all of the federal, state, county, and city-level jails housing inmates for drugs.   What we do know is that there 1,571,013 prisoners in state and federal prisons in 2012, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics.  Of the federal inmates, around half of the prisoners are being locked up because of the War on Drugs.  The number of lives ruined in the name of prohibition cannot possibly be tallied.  Many are going to prison for decades — even life imprisonment — without ever having committed a violent offense.   One such example was the case of Jerry Duval, a farmer who was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for growing marijuana for medicinal use in the manner he was licensed to in the state of Michigan.

The Drug War gives the government the perfect vehicle for expanding its ability to legally steal from citizens, and this year has been no exception.  Thanks to a legal maneuver known as Civil Asset Forfeiture, government agents can confiscate property and cash from anyone that they merely “suspect” of being involved in the drug trade.  Thanks to recent advancements in domestic spying capabilities, the DEA has managed to double its amount of seizures since 2001.  The owners of the seized property don’t even have to be charged with a crime, but often have to spend a small fortune in court to prove their innocence and get their possessions back.  This practice varies across the country, but the prospect of keeping seized property provides a direct incentive for confiscation in any agency where it is used.  For Darren Kent, a disabled widower in New Jersey, Drug War forfeiture could allow police to confiscate his house, his bank account, his 2 vehicles, and other property — all because of illegal plants he allegedly grew in his basement.

The enforcement of these silly drug laws has become increasingly aggressive and brutal.  When someone is suspected of committing a non-violent drug offense, there is often a team of masked, paramilitary SWAT agents sent in the middle of the night to break down the doors and windows of their home, hold the occupants at gunpoint, and shoot any family pets that dare to challenge their presence.   As one could imagine, this insane policy of “no-knock raids” over drugs leads to an unending torrent of violence and bloodshed inside people’s homes.  In 2013, Los Angeles Sheriff’s deputies gunned down 80-year-old Eugene Mallory in his bed during a legal home-invasion to investigate if he was making meth.  Earlier this month, police negligently shot Krystal Barrows, mother of  three, in the head during a drug raid in Chillicothe, Ohio.

In case its not obvious, prohibition laws leave open the legal doorways for many innocent people to feel the brunt of the police state.   In 2013, a family of maple syrup farmers in Illinois was raided on suspicion of making meth.  The Harte family of Kansas says that after buying hydroponics equipment for their indoor garden, police stormed their house in a manner that reminded them of Navy SEALs storming the bin Laden residence.  Urban garden advocate John Kohler, of GrowingYourGreens.com, had his home searched because police thought he might be growing illegal plants in his house.  One does not have to look far for more examples of drug raids gone bad.

Not even the elderly can escape from the harassment of strident drug enforcers have.   Tennessee police pulled over and harassed an elderly couple because their car had a Ohio State University bumper sticker that the police officer thought might represent a marijuana leaf.  A Utah man’s final moments with his recently-deceased wife were rudely interrupted when police barged into his home to confiscate her prescription painkillers.

It should be obvious that drug prohibition gives perverts and sexual predators a convenient place to legally abuse citizens while getting paid to do so.  In June, a story broke about a female driver being asked to lift her shirt and shake her bra multiple times for a police officer who wanted her to prove she didn’t have drugs packed in it.  In Texas, two bikini-clad women were  given cavity searches on the side of the highway.  “You’re going to go up my private parts?” Brandy Hamilton asked the officer.  “Yes, ma’am,” the officer responded, before jamming a finger into each of their crotches with the same glove.

These forced cavity searches were a regular occurrence in 2013, in what can only be described as cases of legal rape.   After rolling a stop sign,David Eckert of Deming, Utah, was detained and taken to a hospital, and for hours he was subjected to manual finger probes of his anus, forced to take an enema and defecate in front of police officers, forcibly X-rayed, and ultimately given a full-blown colonoscopy to attempt to find drugs in his colon.  And this case is not unique.  An American woman returning to the United States from Mexico was detained at the border near El Paso, chained to a hospital bed and given a forcible gynecological exam, involving finger penetration, forced defecation, and X-rays and a CT-scan.  A 26-year-old Oregon man named Jason Barnes was forcibly catheterized by police after he was stopped by police for riding a bicycle without lights.

Stories from 2013 also should have made it glaringly obvious how easy it is to wrongly convict people and ruin innocent lives.  In February, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled that “a court can presume” an alert by a drug-sniffing dog provides probable cause for a search, even if the dot is not fully trained and lacks any documentation of its accuracy record.  If animals deciding your fate is not disconcerting enough, consider what happens when the government agents decide to say you possessed contraband when you actually didn’t.   Tens of thousands of drug cases may have been corrupted by a Massachusetts crime-lab chemist namedAnnie Dookhan who collaborated with prosecutors to achieve more convictions.  A Georgia judge ordered police officers to frame a woman with drugs after she refused to have sex with him.  The potential for abusing “possession” laws are endless.

Schools Groom Children for Life in Police State USA

Government schools have always been the source of indoctrination and inadequate education, but the rise of security hysteria and zero-tolerance policies has made them into veritable conditioning centers for life in the American police state.

As a matter of policy in most compulsory government schools, students are subjected to warrantless searches of their bags and lockers, dog sniffs, and are even being forced to give urine samples without probable cause.    Drug enforcement and education takes on a variety of different forms.  In Indiana, police officers subjected a class of 5th graders to a “simulated drug raid” in a “drug awareness” event that resulted in one student getting attacked by the police dog that was demonstrating how it might search children for drugs if the police were crashing a party at someone’s home.

With modern technology, they are being watched and listened under sophisticated surveillance systems, sometimes which are fed directly to police departments.  Some schools are making students carry RFID badgesor use biometric scanners to track attendance and movement.  Their bodies are forced to endure mass-medication at earlier and earlier ages.

Many schools use what have been known as “isolation booths” for children who misbehave, which in practice are tantamount to solitary confinement in a dark closet.

Parking lots are subject to warrantless searches; some so draconian that high school students are getting felonies for leaving pocket knives locked in their cars.   In fact, it is common to have police officers regularly in school so administrators can outsource discipline to courts and jails.  Anundercover cop disguised as a high-schooler in Temecula, California, befriended an autistic boy and convinced him to purchase marijuana in order to arrest him.

The curriculum is unsurprisingly pro-statism, with recent (and glaring) examples involving students being asked to justify repealing amendments out of the Bill of Rights and being taught that government is like “family” and should be obeyed.

In addition, schools are being locked down at every possible opportunity.   A school in Idaho went into “full prison mode” when a student brought afolding shovel.  A Long Island school went into lockdown when a child had a lime green Nerf toy.

The lockdowns are becoming so routine that police departments and schools are running terror drills to make sure they run smoothly.  The El Paso SWAT team staged a “surprise” terror drill in a school in which police charged into the school, used simulated gunfire, and detonated concussion grenades while they took over the school — to the surprise of everyone except for the principal.  A similar terror drill was conducted in aChicago school “in an effort to provide our teachers and students some familiarity with the sound of gunfire.”  An Oregon school hired a man to wear a mask and carry a realistic gun into a faculty meeting and surprise teachers with realistic sounding gunfire in order to test their “readiness.”  In Ohio, a mock hijacking was staged on a school bus containing children so that the SWAT team could practice its explosive rescue techniques.

More Dangerous Decisions from the Supreme Court

SCOTUS made a few rulings in 2013 regarding the police state.  While certainly not the worst court decisions we’ve endured, they can be added to a long list of bad ones.  This year again made it clear that justice appointees from neither party are dedicated to constitutional principles and proper legal interpretations.

In Salinas v. Texas, the court ruled 5-4 that when a suspect doesn’t answer a question during an interrogation, his silence can be used as evidence in court to demonstrate guilt.  Genovevo Salinas was convicted of a 1992 murder.  Salinas cooperated with detectives in answering some questions, but refrained from answering others.  He remained silent when questioned about the murder weapon.  Prosecutors used his silence as evidence of guilt during trial, which has now been upheld by both Texas courts and the U.S. Supreme Court.  Critics say that this decision has compromised a person’s right to remain silent.

The second case being called to attention is Bowman v. Monsanto.  An Indiana farmer named Vernon Bowman was sued by agri-giant and seed-modifier Monsanto for purchasing seeds from a grain elevator and planting them in his fields.  Monsanto claimed that planting those seeds violated the corporation’s patent rights over them, since they were genetically-modified and considered Monsanto’s intellectual property.  Since Bowman “replicated” the company’s intellectual property, he was sued for nearly $85,000.00 in damages.  Bowman contended that existing patent law did not cover life forms, and that he had broken no laws.  “If they don’t want me to go to the elevator and buy that grain, then Congress should pass a law saying you can’t do it,” said Bowman.

The Supreme Court took up the Bowman case, and disappointingly sided 9-0 with Monsanto.  Rather than accurately declaring that the 120-year-old patent law did not offer any legal coverage of self-replicating seeds as they reproduce in perpetuity, the court made a landmark decision and changed the mechanics of patent law forever without an act of Congress.  This was the very definition of legislating from the bench, and gives corporations the leverage they need to punish consumers for “breaking” laws that don’t really accurately cover modern technologies like genetically-modified lifeforms and computer software.

Lastly was the Maryland v. King case, in which the Supreme Court affirmed 5-4 that a police department may seize DNA as a part of a standard booking procedure — like fingerprinting — for people arrested and accused of a crime.  The DNA may then be put into a database, stored indefinitely, and compared to existing cases, despite the fact that the accused person had not yet been convicted of any crimes.

There are a lot of reasons to object to the compulsion of all individuals to purchase corporate services — also known as the “Affordable Care Act.”  For brevity and relevance, we will focus here on the aspects that increase the power of the police state.

2013 was the last year that Americans could live and breathe in the United States legally without being compelled to insurance packages from private corporations.  Should a person fail or refuse to purchase insurance, he will be subjected to some hefty fines from the federal government, enforced by the IRS.

The fines have been subject to quite a bit of disinformation, and are more significant than most people realize.  A common talking point is that the fines are “only” $95, being spread by disinfo agents on the internet and even official radio ads released by the government.  The part that is being omitted by these people is that the $95 fine is only valid for a small group of low-income taxpayers, for the first year (2014) only.  The fines increase dramatically if the person has an average income or has a family, as well as increasing in stages in 2015 and 2016.

Police State USA discussed the details of the fines in a previous article.  We consider the mandates to be a very serious breach of liberty that come with widespread implications.

We also learned this year that the upcoming health care law will include a considerable amount of privacy concerns.  With the creation of the “Federal Data Services Hub,” a trove of personal information will be collected on all customers and shared among several agencies.  The information “includes, but may not be limited to”: Social Security numbers, income, family size, citizenship and immigration status, gender, ethnicity, email addresses, incarceration records, enrollment status in other health plans, tax information, employment information, patient medical records, pregnancy status, list of disabilities, welfare information, and demographic data (e.g. address, birthdate, physical description…).

All this personal information will be accessible by bureaucrats ranging from the Social Security Administration, the IRS, the Department of Homeland Security, the Veterans Administration, Office of Personnel Management, the Department of Defense and the Peace Corps. And that is in addition to the Medicaid databases linked to the Hub.  To be forced into a system such as this by is indeed a great detriment to personal freedom.

The Dorner Manhunt

One of the most significant stories of 2013 in was the 9-day manhunt for an ex-LAPD officer, Christopher Dorner.  After 2 people related to a Los Angeles Police Department captain were shot to death, a manifesto was published online — purportedly by Chris Dorner — claiming responsibility for the acts and threatening more violence against the department.  In a city that experiences hundreds of murders per year, this incident would be treated much differently because the targets were police officers.  What followed was a horrifying and shameful display of violence and disregard for civil liberties.

The manhunt that ensued spanned from oceans to mountains, involving participation from local, state, and federal agents.  Roadblocks were set up and vehicles were searched without probable cause; some at gunpoint.  When police narrowed their search to the mountain community of Big Bear Lake, California, they began performing house-to-house searches.  Some 400-600 homes were searched, as reported by CNN and the Los Angeles Times.  The town was blocked off and all vehicles entering and leaving were searched.

Four days into the manhunt, with tensions high and paranoia abound, police opened fire on innocent people in two separate incidents; both in the LA suburb of Torrance.  The shootings took place minutes apart at separate locations, involving different sets of officers.

The first incident occurred when two newspaper couriers performed their regular delivery route during the early morning hours of February 7th.  Unbeknownst to the two delivery women, their route took them directly past the home of one of the VIPs of the Los Angeles Police Department, which was surrounded by police officers as a preemptive security measure.  Police watched as the truck made drops along the street.  As it drove away from the VIP’s home — making no threat to anyone — eight police officers opened fire at the rear of the truck.  The two terrified women huddled up as over 100 rounds riddled their vehicle; popping the tires, shattering the windows, mangling the steel, and hitting both of their bodies.  Miraculously, both women survived their wounds.

The incident was a breathtaking display of incompetence and unprovoked aggression.  Police had absolutely no idea who they were shooting at.  They were seeking a suspect driving a black Nissan Titan.  The victims were in a blue Toyota Tacoma.  The fugitive was a large, muscular black man with a shaved head.  The victims were two Hispanic women;  one of them 71-years-old.  A total of 102 rounds struck the truck, not counting the other stray shots that whizzed through the residential neighborhood.

The second incident of unprovoked violence occurred 25 minutes later the same morning.  Around 5:45 a.m., a man driving a black truck was on his way to do some early morning surfing before work.  He was flagged down by two police officers staking out the neighborhood for Dorner.  The officers questioned him, searched his truck, and told him to turn around and head the other direction.  He complied.

Moments later, as he traveled the opposite direction on the same road, another police car approached him from ahead.  He slowed his truck to the side of the road and expected them to pass.  Instead, the police car went into rapid acceleration directly toward him, striking his truck so violently that it knocked one of his wheels off.  Police officers then leapt from their car and opened fire on the truck, riddling the windshield with bullets.  Miraculously, the man survived.

Again, police had no idea who they were attacking.  The victim in this case was a Caucasian man with a small build, and drove a Honda Ridgeline.  None of this matched the description of the suspect, and even if it did match, it would not be justifiable cause to immediately attack.

In both cases, the department defended the actions of the officers, kept them on duty, and concealed their identities from the public.  At least nine officers were involved in the two incidents of unprovoked aggression, and none of them have been held to any semblance of accountability to the public.

The manhunt concluded with Dorner being surrounded in a cabin in Big Bear, California.  Negotiations failed, and gunfire was exchanged.  Police quickly resorted to deliberately burning down the cabin in a Waco-style burn out.  Pyrotechnic teargas was deployed into the structure and set ablaze with the purpose of burning the suspect alive.  Although the sheriff would go on to deny the fire was set intentionally, audio from the incident clearly shows the fire was premeditated and the police had no interest in taking the suspect alive.

The Boston / Watertown Lockdown

The incidents that transpired after the attack at the Boston Marathon were nothing short of egregious with respect to civil liberties.  On April 15th, two small devices made from pressure cookers exploded at the race, killing 3 and wounding hundreds.  An incredible show of force followed, with a deployment of National Guard soldiers all over Boston and rifle-toting police officers standing guard on city streets.   Governor Deval Patrick said that Bostonians should expect random checks of their bags and backpacks while in public.   The governor said that the “enhanced” police presence and warrantless searches would be an “inconvenience” to residents.  Pedestrians were forced to show their identifications to soldiers, bags were searched, and civil rights were generally discarded for the days that followed.

“They can give me a cavity search right now and I’d be perfectly happy,”said one man as he boarded a Boston train.

Police suspected two Chechen brothers as being responsible.  On Friday, April 19th, police encountered one of the suspects and engaged him in a firefight.  The suspect was killed, but his brother remained at large in the Boston suburb of Watertown, Massachusetts.  With this information, over 9,000 police, federal agents, and military personnel from around the country descended upon the the town and put it into complete lock down.  Public transportation was suspended.  Residents were ordered to stay home and “shelter in place.”   Businesses were ordered to remain closed.  Roads were barricaded and no one was allowed to leave the town.

Dramatic photographs began to hit the internet as people remained trapped inside their homes with mobs of police and military filling the streets. Armored vehicles and military Humvees patrolled the town and enforced the lockdown.  Agents began performing warrantless house-to-house searches.  Police were filmed ripping people from their homes at gunpoint, marching the residents out with their hands raised in submission, and then storming the homes to perform full home searches.  While it was unclear initially if the searches were voluntary, videos of the searches and interviews with the residents make it absolutely clear that some of the searches were absolutely NOT voluntary.

The scenes resembled martial law, a sentiment echoed by Congressman Ron Paul.  View one of the more dramatic raids here:

Complete abandonment of the Bill of Rights took place in order to catch one man.  After the suspect was apprehended — due to a citizen’s tip, not the warrantless searches — crowds of people cheered for the police and chanted “USA, USA, USA!”  Illusions of safety were the only things on their minds.

The first step toward reversing this menacing problem is to spread awareness and create some outrage.  Not nearly enough people care about their rights enough to protect them.  That needs to change, by the influence of a tireless and irate minority.  Those of you reading this and feeling outraged: your direct participation in politics and political organizing is essential.  Start by spreading this article to those who need a wake-up call, and commit yourself to real-life, hands-on activism that goes beyond feeling angry behind your computer.  Activism can take a variety of forms; peaceful, of course.  But that’s a subject unto itself.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen! The once-proud dragon slayers of the North American Continent, the righteous defenders of freedom who walked with head held high in a land of liberty, are now the prisoners of the dragon and are being beguiled by the false promises of a camouflaged devil, in the hopes of eternal salvation here on earth. But the dragon speaks with a forked tongue. This dragon has uttered lofty words of hope, change, dreams, and of being lifted up by the omnipotent power of the Messianic One. He will wave his magic wand and relieve you of your suffering and wants. He will provide you with jobs, free health care and he will bring peace to the world at last.

After 5 years of this Devil, how is that working out for you?

This purveyor of false dreams appeals to the weakness in man, the weakness in man that seeks salvation by the hand of another, instead of looking into his own heart and mind to extract his own salvation in the manifestation of self-reliance, responsibility and the duty to one's own life. He does this so that he does not become a burden on his neighbor. The man who would bow down to a false savior hoping that this savior will deliver him from poverty, oppression and discrimination, is a man who believes in apparitions and ghosts. Such a man hands over his life to the Devil and in so doing surrenders his will and his freedom, ignorant of the fact that the Devil wants to own him.

America's freedom, the promise of liberty and the pursuit of happiness was not a promise from government to save you from yourself, or to drag you out of poverty, or to protect you from oppression and discrimination, or dip into the public treasury to pay you for your mistakes and transgressions. It was a promise and an absolute contract on government to preserve, protect and defend your individual liberties so that you are "free" to succeed in glory, or fail and rise out of the depths of failure on your own. America's Constitution was not a contract to feed you, or provide you with a job, or "free" health care, that is anything but free. In fact, the Constitution makes no such promise or guarantee.

Government has no Constitutional right to take from me because I am a little better well off than you and hand over my sweat equity to you, because you are not as well off as I. That is pure Marxism. Government has imputed that right by a perversion, strained interpretations or unlawful additions to the Constitution and it has done so with malice aforethought. It has done so to own you and keep you under control and to keep them in power. Unfortunately, most Americans have now become slaves to that very government that had an absolute duty and obligation to defend and maintain their freedom, but instead, with stealth, wrapped them in chains.

So out of the bowels of one of the most corrupt cities in America, came a flawed "savior". In flowery tones and inspirational phrases he spoke of high hopes, attaining unrealized dreams and changes to government that will lift each of us up out of bondage. He uttered words of American pride, strength and a can-do spirit and for those of us who can see through this veil of propaganda and deceit, we know he cares not one whit about American pride, strength and can-do spirit. This man is motivated by one thing and one thing only, power, power over the people. His ego discovered that power when his audiences began to heap praise and applause on his emotionally charged speeches. We are surprised that he has not spread his arms wide to the heavens and parted the Atlantic Ocean.

But should you believe in the promises of the Messianic One, this omnipotent savior with a tortured past, who was blown into national prominence from the Windy City by unseen hands, you will hand your life over to a man who will instead, strip you of your American pride, strength and can-do spirit. Because no one man, or a plethora of men can give you what can only come out of your own heart, mind and soul. Others may reach out and give you a helping hand, but the final thrust to a better life and the pursuit of happiness must come out of what is inside you.

This false prophet and his cast of loyal "angels" have taxed achievement and provided monetary incentives for sloth by executive fiat, or legislative trickery. He negotiates with our enemies who seek to destroy us. By his own words he would disarm America and render her vulnerable to those enemies who would see her in Hell. He has sold American sovereignty on the alter of the one-world-order. He has opened the doors to illegal immigration with the promises of amnesty, in the hopes of enlisting new hordes of socialist voters. He has pandered to the radical environmentalists who, if they get their way, will reduce America to a third-world country and strip her of her pride, dignity, wealth, prosperity, ingenuity, creativity and generosity, not to mention her very freedom.

But take heart! We've taken on Kings before. Back in 1776 we smote the almighty King and kicked he and his army and navy out of America. We had to do it again in 1812, but we did it then too. So what's the big deal? Obama is just another King to smite. Americans are good at that. We will just have to kick out this new King and send his narcissistic bony carcass on a one-way trip to …… well, what do you think ….. maybe Kenya. He'd fit right in there with his brother who lives on $50.00 per year, an illegal aunt and uncle who should be there and a grandmother who swears Obama was born there.

Then, one by one, we'll have to package up the Emanuels, Pelosis, Reids, Schumers, Dodds, Franks, Rangles, Nadlers, Clintons and a whole bunch of other political traitors and send them to say ….. well how about an old, rusting liberty ship, towed out in the Pacific Ocean just above the Mariana Trench (it's 35,000 feet deep there), where they can argue amongst themselves over who is going to run the ship with a dead engine and a leaky hull. Remember how the old liberty ships used to break apart when they broached a big wave? Blub! Blub! No loss there.

Oh, and by the way. Only about 15% of the American people participated in the victory over King George III in the late 17 hundreds. And good ole "Hickory", (General Andrew Jackson) although outnumbered 5 to 1, annihilated the British again at New Orleans in circa 1812, with a bunch of irregulars and a little American guerilla warfare know-how. The British were stunned and then routed in one of their worst defeats in all of their empirical history. Too bad!

However, as usual, in both the 1776 and 1812 wars, the rest of the Americans stood by and watched, or were traitors and ratted on true Americans. So how is that any different than today? We've got all these dependent folk who live in big cities, voting for and hanging on every word that emanates from Obama's lying mouth and ratting on patriotic Americans who live by the principles of liberty. That hasn't changed. We've got the millions who are too cowardly to lift a finger to depose King Obama and his gang of thieves and liars. That's no different. We've got neighbor ratting on neighbor over alleged violations of draconian environmental regulations. Many shameless Americans have turned into a bunch of "tattle talers" in response to the millions of laws our government has passed. Does Hitler's Youth come to mind?

But on the other hand, what we do have is tens of millions of Americans who are getting fed up with the King and his trashing of our constitution, the lying, the irresponsible spending of our money and the increasing of his and the government's power. If we let him have his head, soon he will be King and America will be a fascist country under dictatorial rule. Now how is that any different from Hitler, Stalin or Mussolini? The net result is the same, enslavement ….. if we let him.

Folks, it isn't going to happen. Americans are a funny lot. They'll take the crap off of government for just so long and then, look out. Hell hath no fury than an American scorned and Americans are being scorned by the minute by their government, especially under the IRS and Obama Care, a grandiose wealth re-distribution scheme that has become the liberal's unintentional gift to Conservatives.

We have taken on tyrants before and we have beat them every time. So quit whining about how tough our job is and join in the effort to send these over-educated idiots to the scrap heap where they belong. Sure there is a cost, but remember, "The Price of Liberty is Eternal Vigilance". We just forgot that old adage for about a century. Now it is time to put the "cost" into practice and there is no doubt ….. we can do it.

The NSA, the IRS, Benghazi, Obama Care and the brainwashing of our kids, are all important issues to address. The "Duck Dynasty" controversy is trivia at best. In 2014 and beyond, let's focus on the real issues that deteriorate our freedom and avoid those issues that distract us.

Ladies and gentlemen, no man should hand his life over to another and if he does, he has given into the weakness that inhabits the lower recesses of all men that they must resist if they desire to remain free. With all our power of persuasion, we implore you to not hand over your life and this Country's future to the Devil's advocate that would willingly sell your freedom, individual rights and America's sovereignty down the river.

Look deep into your hearts for the life force that sustains you. That life force will be your salvation. That life force will lift you out of poverty, oppression and discrimination in the land of the free, that is, if we are allowed to remain free. If you bow to their will, government will just enslave you.

In the end, achievement transcends race, religion, creed, oppression, discrimination and yes, even poverty. Achievement and the desire to achieve, flourishes best under the flag of liberty.

We would like to conclude with a poem we wrote several years ago. We hope that it will help you visualize and seek out your own strength so that you will not so willingly hand it over to the false inspiration of the Devil's right hand man, masquerading as a counterfeit Messiah that has mesmerized the naive, unwashed masses of America, who seek salvation by another's hand, where only slavery exists. The poem is called:

The will to survive is paramount.
Living is a battle and you have to take sides,

As you read the poem you may have been thinking that the life force within us has a different name. If that is your bent, we defray to your wisdom.

Our pursuit of happiness and prosperity comes from what lies within inside each of us. In no way is it, or can it be, a free gift from government. For those who look to Obama or government as their savior, they give into their deepest weaknesses. Obama and unrestrained government will enslave you, not free you.

If by some freak accident you have read some of the articles I have re-posted on http://anationbeguiled.com and http://anationbeguiled.wordpress.com , you will already know what my opinion is of OBUMA.

I sincerely hope he will be remembered as the first person in history to be hated more than Hitler and Stalin. That he will live a long life of shame, self hatred, and devastating poverty.

For years now I have spent my morning hours looking for articles that will help our obtuse citizens understand the real danger we face as a society, and a Nation, and it has had a terrible effect on me to see so much apathy and acceptance of tyranny in our government.

Where is the spirit of freedom in the minds and hearts of our fellow Americans? Where is the pride of being non-dependent? Where is the outrage after realizing we were beguiled by our teachers and elected leaders? Why are there not fifty million Americans standing in front of the Capital building demanding their country back?

So, it's a real gift to see someone as hurt and outraged as I am by our noctambulous society.

THE PERILS OF A PATHOCRACY

If we are to truly understand the meaning of the above quote it is necessary I believe to differentiate between what is referred to as “primary psychopaths” and ‘secondary psychopaths.” A primary psychopath is a person who is genetically predisposed to the personality traits of a psychopath and this category appears to be more violent than the secondary psychopaths who are more a product of their environment.

In most instances, either psychopath appears to be outwardly “normal;” both primary and secondary psychopaths have no sense of ethics or the rights of others. If this does not describe to a “T” the current and former administrations of this country including bureaucrats, members of Congress and the Supreme Court, I don’t know what does. If they go into government service normal, they certainly become a product of their environment or they are ignored.

Need we say more than the admitted to police state that we now live under; the ever increasing war on Individual Rights as guaranteed by our Creator and defined in our Bill of Rights; the abnormal number of people incarcerated in our prison system; continued false flag events; immoral wars and torture waged on citizens of other countries; bank bailouts, vaccinations; GMOs;  the perversion of our education system to one of indoctrination, huge cases of mortgage fraud initiated by the very banks who were bailed out from their irresponsible lending practices using taxpayer dollars and the constant attacks on our right to protect ourselves and our families; just to name a few.

The government lied about the circumstances of the attack on Pearl Harbor; they lied about the Gulf of Tonkin incident; they lied about the Oklahoma City bombing; they lied about TWA 800; they lied about Ruby Ridge; they lied about Waco and they lied about 9/11. The very essence of government is fear and the lie. The very tools used most often by psychopaths.

It is relatively simple to understand why most Americans do not want to believe for a moment that our government is staffed by a group of psychopaths but the evidence is hard to refute.

What are the characteristics of a psychopath according to mental health professionals? Compare the ones listed below to what you see from day today in our elected officials; bureaucrats; federal, state and local, and law enforcement personnel.

1.      Uncaring or coldhearted.

2.    Lack of social emotions such as shame, guilt and embarrassment.

3.    Irresponsibility or the blaming of others.

4.    Superficial charm.

5.     Untruthfulness, insincerity or outright lying.

6.    Inflating the truth for selfish reasons.

7.     Overconfidence and boastfulness.

8.    A lack of realistic goals; Irritable and aggressive.


If you are still having problems believing we are governed by psychopaths and that once normal people are aligned with government they become “secondary psychopaths,” please consider the following:

Government supposedly operates with “consent of the governed” or in other words government in all its various forms is our employee. Consider for a moment what your reaction would be if one of your employees; attempted to have you put in prison on perjured testimony; sent your children to fight your neighbors based on lies; stole your property and your money; vaccinated your children with poison; attempted to poison your food supply; used your money to indoctrinate your children while claiming to educate them; tried to steal your home; stole your money and gave it to their bank; told you how much water you could put in your toilet and tried to take your guns—just to name a few?

How long would you allow an employee who did even one of the above mentioned acts of tyranny to remain in your employ? Would you have serious reservations about their mental state? For what reason would you continue to offer them employment?

A must read book on this subject is: Political Ponerology: A science on the nature of evil for political purposes, by Andrew M. Lobaczewski. Here are a few relevant quotes from his seminal work.

“In a pathocracy, all leadership positions must be filled by individuals with corresponding psychological deviations, which are inherited as a rule. However, such people constitute a very small percentage of the population and this makes them more valuable to the pathocrats.

Under such conditions, no area of social life can develop normally, whether in economics, culture, science, technology, administration, etc. Pathocracy progressively paralyzes everything. Normal people must develop a level of patience beyond the ken of anyone living in a normal man's system just in order to explain what to do and how to do it to some obtuse mediocrity of a psychological deviant who has been placed in charge of some project that he cannot even understand, much less manage. This special kind of pedagogy – instructing deviants while avoiding their wrath – requires a great deal of time and effort, but it would otherwise not be possible to maintain tolerable living conditions and necessary achievements in the economic area or intellectual life of a society. Even with such efforts, pathocracy progressively intrudes everywhere and dulls everything.

Therefore, to mitigate the threat to their power, the pathocrats must employ any and all methods of terror and exterminatory policies against individuals known for their patriotic feelings and military training; other, specific "indoctrination" activities such as those we have presented are also utilized. Individuals lacking the natural feeling of being linked to normal society become irreplaceable in either of these activities.

The phenomenon of pathocracy matures during this period: an extensive and active indoctrination system is built, with a suitably refurbished ideology constituting the vehicle or Trojan horse for the purpose of pathologizing the thought processes of individuals and society. The goal – forcing human minds to incorporate pathological experiential methods and thought-patterns, and consequently accepting such rule – is never openly admitted. This goal is conditioned by pathological egotism, and the possibility of accomplishing it strikes the pathocrats as not only indispensable, but feasible.” (Emphasis mine)

Sometimes the only way to understand what we already know but can’t explain is to read the words of others. I now understand why Zbigniew Brzezinski fought so hard to stop the publication of Mr. Lobaczewski’s book; Brzezinski being the “New World Order” person that he is. Never forget Brzezinski was responsible for providing 500 million of our taxpayer dollars to the Muslim Brotherhood back during the Carter administration. Brzezinski had no fear of "stirred-up Muslims" it seems.

If we as a country continue to allow psychopaths to control our government, we are destined to be found on the scrapheap of history but first will come the awful acts of genocide and democide that have been the trademark of psychopathic tyrants throughout recorded history as is fully documented in the book “Death by Government” by R. J. Rummel.

Again, the choice is ours: Liberty or slavery, genocide and democide?

If you were standing on the railroad tracks and you saw a train bearing down on you at high speed, what would you do? If your child was playing next to a cliff and you saw him chasing a ball towards the cliff, what would you do? If 12-18-2013 8-08-54 AMburglaries and thefts were rising in your neighborhood, what would you do? If bullies and thugs took over your town, what would you do? If a man confronted you on the street and demanded your money, what would you do? In most cases you would act swiftly to get out of the way, save your child, take action to stop the neighborhood crime, confront the bully and resist the robber from stealing your money ….. or would you?

What if your neighbor came over one day and said, I need more of your property and I am moving my fence twenty feet onto yours and I'm not going to pay you a dime, what would you do? If your boss said that he has established a new policy of welfare and has decided to take a percentage of YOUR paycheck (not his) and give it to the poor, what would you do? If you were part of an organization that existed on private donations and the board members decided that they were going to use fear, intimidation, threats, lies and propaganda to increase donations, what would you do? If you were a deacon of a church and you discovered that the other deacons were using parishioner money for their own use, or grossly wasting that money, what would you do? If the local school board decided that they were going to include in the curriculum for your children, a course on Earth's salvation that required teaching the kids that their parent's lifestyle was environmental heresy and should be condemned, what would you do?

In all of the above cases, a normal, reasonable and prudent person would set about to right the situation, one way or another and if necessary, he would enlist others to help him, because a normal, reasonable and prudent person has a sense of what is right and wrong. When they see a wrong, they try to right it, provided they have the courage to face those who desire to continue the wrong for their own benefit, or a hidden agenda.

The Revolutionary War righted a wrong and declared freedom in America. The War of 1812 was a continuation of the Revolutionary War and our winning it prevented America, once again, from falling under British rule. The Civil War righted an egregious wrong and ended black slavery ….. well sort of. The first and second World Wars righted international wrongs against human life, dignity and individual rights. These wrongs were righted by courageous leaders and individuals who knew that they might have to make the ultimate sacrifice to right those wrongs.

Today, we have a litany of wrongs that need to be righted, right here in America. We have government perpetrating on the people the same "wrongs" that we mentioned above, that a normal, reasonable and prudent person would take immediate action to right, when the wrong was recognized.

Why then would the normal, reasonable and prudent people of America turn their heads when their government commits the same wrongs as the neighbor, the bully, the boss, the board members, or the deacons, but on a much grander scale? Why indeed!

Americans, by the millions, are getting hammered by Obama Care through no fault of their own. Why do they take it? Why isn't there a massive uprising? Why aren't lawsuits flying all over the place? Why aren't the people demanding that heads roll with the large, unified voice of millions?

Our school children are being brainwashed and indoctrinated by a federal government-created curriculum (Common Core Standards, Race To the Top and No Child Left Behind programs) that emphasize socialism, collectivism and multi-culturalism. Why aren't the parents crying foul? Why don't they take over the local school boards and reverse this garbage? Why aren't they at the state legislatures creating all kinds of Hell? Do they just not care ….. or are they afraid?

Landowners are being treated like criminals and going to jail for minor code violations on THEIR property. They are forced to fight a tyrannical government, whether it be local, state, or federal, all on their own. They seldom win. But you never hear of these individual battles waged against an arrogant and abusive government, a government that has become the master instead of the servant, a government that blatantly ignores the constitutional limits on its power.

The IRS targets conservatives for political purposes and the president and congress promise a full and complete investigation. The FBI says they are investigating. Nothing happens. Why aren't the people, en masse, demanding answers and not taking a "we're-investigating" as the answer? Why aren't IRS officers, employees and agents being tried in court, fined and incarcerated for long periods for their known criminal acts? Why do Americans tolerate this injustice? Do we enjoy being slaves to the IRS? Have we all become cowards and unwilling to challenge tyranny when it arises?

Four of our diplomats are killed in Benghazi well over a year ago, due to government negligence and neglect. No one in government provided the necessary security, asked for by the diplomats. No one came to their rescue during the attack. No one is being held accountable for the criminal negligence that allowed the attack to happen. Congress is investigating. The Obama Administration is stonewalling and obstructing. Nothing is happening. No one is fired. No one is in jail. Where is the outcry for four dead brave Americans who paid the ultimate price because their government failed them? Have we lost our courage to right a wrong when we recognize it?

Then there are the Fast and Furious and the NSA scandals. In the Fast and Furious scandal, U. S. Attorney General Eric Holder, the top law enforcement officer of America, has been shielded by his boss, our liar-in-chief Barack Hussein Obama, who has declared executive privilege and won't release the documents that Congress has requested to find out who the Hell allowed Fast and Furious to happen in the first place. One of our brave border agents was killed by one of those guns in this gun- running scandal. Has anyone been fired? Has anyone gone to jail? Holder lied to Congress, which is a crime, but he gets off scot-free. The Congress seems to be powerless to stop him or put him in jail for this crime.

The NSA says it isn't spying on us, but it probably is, based on releases by ex-NSA staffer Edward Snowden, who now resides in Russia fearing for his life. Is he a patriot or a traitor? We don’t know. The public simply does not know the depths of NSA spying and how much data it is really collecting. NSA Chief James Clapper lied to Congress and that's a crime. But he is running around loose, free as a bird, telling the public that the NSA isn't really spying on us. Yeah, and President Obama says you can keep your doctor and your health care plan and health care costs are going to go down! Sure!

Why aren't Americans rising up by the millions to find out the truth? Once again, why haven't there been multiple lawsuits by harmed individuals over these egregious violations of our constitutional rights? There should be class action lawsuits exploding all over the place? Why aren't there?

Winston Churchill said at a time of great sacrifice and often quoted: “If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves."

We do not believe that America is in the grips of cowardice because after all, we are Americans. We have a chance to right these wrongs peacefully, before the only action left to us is war. But do we have the will, the courage, the commitment and the resources to right these wrongs before war is our only option? Or, "Will we have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves."

The abject failure of Obama Care has opened millions of eyes to the flawed policies of liberals and progressives that have foisted these policies upon all Americans, doing great harm. If we do not act on this knowledge with the courage of our convictions and quit trying to compromise our beliefs because liberals have more votes, then we will have let over 200 years of freedom slip through our fingers. Ladies and gentlemen, there are other ways to fight these criminals, than at the ballot box.

Future generations will damn us for our cowardice in the face of danger because they will say we knew and did nothing. They will ultimately pay the price in money and eventually in blood, if we let them down.

If the people are afraid, as so many Americans are, and let the bully (government) win, the bully will win all the time and the bully is winning and has been winning for over 100 years ….. not just for the 5 years under the Obama regime. It's the people that let the bully win, out of fear and cowardice. Unless the people stand up en masse, as we are "standing up" with our articles, there will be no restoration of freedom.

Let us all promise that in the year 2014 and from then on, courage will return to those who have allowed easy times and a chicken in every pot to cloud their vision about the huge price that was paid for their freedom and the price that now must be paid to reclaim it, because we chose to look the other way when tyranny raised its ugly head.

In closing, we want to wish each of our readers a very special Christmas holiday with friends and family, at a time of giving and love, as well as the religious celebration it was designed to be for 150 years.

Why Is Homeland Security Taking Control of Local Police?

A key plank of the Obama administration platform seems to be the conversion of the local police into a fifth branch of the U.S. armed forces.

The means of accomplishing this goal is the doling out of millions of dollars from theDepartment of Homeland Security (DHS) to police departments and sheriffs’ offices around the country.

Cash-strapped local law enforcement gobbles up the federal “grants,” purchasing military-grade vehicles, weapons, ammunition, and surveillance technology that would make the National Security Agency (NSA) proud.

For a list of the largesse and an inventory of the incredible equipment it finances, we rely on local media reports.

The Journal News from Albany, New York reports:

To help local emergency preparedness capability, local governments and police departments across the state have received $80 million in grants, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced today.

The grants help support and expand local government and police departments’ ability to respond and react to emergencies. The majority of funding is distributed through the $75 million annual state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Statewide Interoperable Communications Grant, Gannett’s Ashley Hupfl reports.

According to the story, the DHS money will go to fund “Technical Rescue and Urban Search and Rescue, Bomb Squad Initiative, the Explosive Detection Canine Team Grant Program, and the Critical Infrastructure Grant Program.”

In San Juan, Texas, DHS money is buying the police department an intelligence-gathering robot. Local newspaper, The Monitor, reports:

The San Juan Police Department has added a robot named Raven to its crime fighting arsenal.

Raven was purchased in early November at a cost of $27,000, paid for with a grant from the Department of Homeland Security, said San Juan police Chief Juan Gonzalez.

“Raven is a great asset to our department,” Gonzalez said, referring to the black, shin-high, tank-like robot designed to enter hard-to-reach places. “He is equipped with a set of cameras, infrared cameras and audio equipment that gives us eyes and ears in difficult situations such as a hostage situation.”

While Raven has already been used to gather intelligence in a drug raid last month, San Juan police got a chance to fully interact with the robot in the days before Thanksgivingwhen the department ran a series of exercises to test the capabilities of Raven and of the Law Enforcement Emergency Regional Response Team, or LEERRT — the regional SWAT team based in San Juan.

The San Juan Police Department’s website looks more like an advertisement for an elite military unit rather than for the cops froma town of less than 36,000.

Apart from armored personnel vehicles and war-worthy weapons, perhaps the most popular item purchased with DHS grant money is facial recognition software.

San Diego State University’s Police Department is the proud new owner of this powerful surveillance technology. The school’s newspaper The Daily Aztec reports:

Facial recognition technology, previously limited to soldiers in Afghanistan and FBI agents, is now being used by civilian law enforcement agencies throughout San Diego County. According to documents acquired by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a nonprofit focused on digital and privacy rights, the San Diego State Police Department is one of the agencies using this new technology. SDSUPD currently only has one officer in the program. However, he is the most active officer in the county, with more than 200 photos analyzed from January to October of this year.

The program to bring facial recognition technology to San Diego law enforcement is called TACIDS—short for Tactical Identification System. It’s a pilot program from the San Diego Association of Governments developed and purchased using grants from the federal government’s National Institute of Justice and theDepartment of Homeland Security, according to The Center for Investigative Reporting.

TACIDS works through Samsung tablets and Android smartphones that were distributed to specific officers (SDSUPD uses a tablet). Most of the 25 participating agencies were given one or two devices, although the sheriff’s department received the most with 64, while the San Diego and National City policedepartments received 27 and 26 respectively.

Notice that the story practically brags about the fact that a college police department is going to have gear more appropriate in the battlefield than on campus.

Maybe the author of the piece in The Daily Aztec is saying more than he meant to.

Is there a chance that the Department of Homeland Security is funneling all this money and materiel to local police to prepare them to quell popular uprisings? One expert thinks that may be the case.

Jim Fitzgerald worked for eight years as a vice and narcotics squad detective in Newark, New Jersey, before joining the staff of The John Birch Society. He is point man for the conservative organization’s “Support Your Local Police” initiative.

In an interview with The New American, Fitzgerald said there is “virtually no use” for the military-grade equipment being bought by local law enforcement with DHS grant money.

“The only reason to have this equipment is to use it,” Fitzgerald said, and it is likely it would be used against local citizens who have risen up and created some sort of civil disorder.

DHS, Fitzgerald believes, may be anticipating these riots and looks to them as a justification for the militarization of the police.

“They [DHS grants] are not good, not healthy, and not constitutional,” Fitzgerald adds.

The question that remains is how long citizens will accept the arming of their local police until they rise up in resistance and, as DHS probably has orchestrated, are targets of all the tactical weaponry, ammunition, and monitoring technology.

From license plate readers to facial recognition software, from surveillance cameras to cellphone signal trackers, the Department of Homeland Security is providing police with all the gadgets, hardware, and software necessary to keep everybody under surveillance, without the targeted public ever realizing that it’s the Capitol, not the cops, that are behind the monitoring.

Local police who participate in the program will have access to a shockingly broad array of personal information of citizens. Facial recognition technology, license platereaders, and stop light camera video feeds will all be funneled to a Regional Operations Intelligence Center where FBI, police, and DHS agents can watch the live feeds.

In fairness, most police chiefs and sheriffs are unaware of any larger, more sinister DHS program to foment riot as a pretext for quelling it.

But whether these lawmen realize it or not, when they accept federal gadgets and grants, they are surrendering their independence and their citizens’ civil liberties.

Perhaps the most important argument against the federalization of local police departments is that there is not a single syllable of the Constitution authorizing any such federal participation in law enforcement. If the power isn’t granted to the federal government in the Constitution, then authority over that area remains with the states and the people as described in the Tenth Amendment.

Self-serving bureaucrats inside the U.S. government are tirelessly trying to obliterate local police forces answerable to local citizens and promote the consolidation movement as a step toward federalization of law enforcement. These proponents of regional and national police forces desire nothing less than the eradication of all local police departments and sheriffs’ offices, the surrender of state and municipal sovereignty, and the conversion of police into federal security agents sworn not to protect and to serve their neighbors, but to protect the prerogatives of politicians.

Federal Reserve and Wall Street Assassinate US Dollar

Since 2006, the US dollar has experienced a one-quarter to one-third drop in value to the Chinese yuan, depending on the choice of base.  

Now China is going to let the dollar decline further in value.  China also says it is considering undermining the petrodollar by pricing oil futures on the Shanghai Futures Exchange in yuan. This on top of the growing avoidance of the dollar to settle trade imbalances means that the dollar’s role as reserve currency is coming to an end, which means the termination of the US as financial bully and financial imperialist.  This blow to the dollar in addition to the blows delivered by jobs off shoring and the uncovered bets in the gambling casino created by financial deregulation means that the US economy as we knew it is coming to an end.

The US economy is already in shambles, with bond and stock markets propped up by massive and historically unprecedented Fed money printing pouring liquidity into financial asset prices.  This month at the IMF annual conference, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers said that to achieve full employment in the US economy would require negative real interest rates.  Negative real interest rates could only be achieved by eliminating cash, moving to digital money that can only be kept in banks, and penalizing people for saving.

The future is developing precisely as I have been predicting.

As the dollar enters its death throes, the lawless Federal Reserve and the Wall Street criminals will increase their shorting of gold in the paper futures market, thereby driving the remnants of the West’s gold into Asian hands.

PBOC Says No Longer in China’s Interest to Increase Reserves

The People’s Bank of China said the country does not benefit any more from increases in its foreign-currency holdings, adding to signs policymakers will rein in dollar purchases that limit the yuan’s appreciation.

“It’s no longer in China’s favor to accumulate foreign-exchange reserves,” Yi Gang, a deputy governor at the central bank, said in a speech organized by China Economists 50 Forum at Tsinghua University yesterday. The monetary authority will “basically” end normal intervention in the currency market and broaden the yuan’s daily trading range, Governor Zhou Xiaochuan wrote in an article in a guidebook explaining reforms outlined last week following a Communist Party meeting.

Cops Kill 8 Times More Americans Than Terrorists Do

Many people have noticed that several of the local police officers, particularly the younger ones are more gruff, rude and even abusive as compared to the past. Many veteran officers attribute the shift towards DHS’ training of local police, which focuses on teaching the police that the public is their enemy as opposed to the traditional view that teaches the local population and the police are partners in keeping the community safe.

Whatever happened to the friendly neighborhood cop, who walked a beat, was well-known and respected by the local residents and was seen as the protector of the neighborhood? Far too often, that cop has been replaced by thugs wearing camouflage, bank robber type black ski masks, who are armed with automatic weapons and sometimes even break down the doors of people who are innocent.

A Long-Term Trend Towards the Militarization of the Local Police

Americans have long maintained that a man’s home is his castle and that he has the right to stand his ground in defending his property from dangerous interlopers.

Unfortunately, the right to defend one’s own home may be disappearing. America has become SWAT team happy. America has seen a disturbing trend towards militarization of its local civilian law enforcement, along with a dramatic and very disturbing rise in the use of paramilitary police units being used for routine police work. The most common use of SWAT teams today is to serve narcotics warrants, usually with forced, unannounced entry into the home. However, anyone can be SWAT-teamed, even those who default on their student loans have been SWAT-teamed.


Since 9/11, and the subsequent militarization of the police by the Department of Homeland Security, about 5,000 Americans have been killed by US police officers. The civilian death rate is nearly equal to the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq. In fact, you are 8 times more likely to be killed by a police officer than by a terrorist.


Salt Lake City: The Federalization of Our Police
 

Under the creation of the Unified Police Department (UPD) in Salt Lake City Utah, local jurisdictions and municipalities which were previously controlled by the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, was reallocated to UPD. The UPD is a regional police force. They answer to no mayor, no city council and no county commissioners. The UPD is Salt Lake City’s new police department and serves as the model for the program which is being implemented in other police departments across the nation. This centralized Gestapo type of law enforcement does not belong anywhere in America.

It is clear that the police departments are being trained as the local enforcers of the coming martial law and they are also being trained to use horrific brutality.

While the majority of police officers are good men, reports like raiding the wrong house and subsequently killing the individuals inside are becoming more common place, and the officers that are involved rarely face any sort of consequences.

John Adams 61, was shot and killed by police in a drug raid on the wrong house. His wife Loraine, 70, was also handcuffed and forced to the ground. Not one of the officers has lost their job. In fact, some have even been promoted since the event.

Jose Guerena was shot and killed by several members of the Pima County Sheriff’s Office on a drug raid that produced no evidence of drug use or that of selling drugs. He was an Iraq veteran and the Pima Sheriffs officers let him bleed to death over the course of an hour after being shot over 60 times. The deputies denied Guerena medical attention. Not one of the officers has lost their job.

The Guerena and Adams cases are being played out all across the country. This is unacceptable in a supposed free society. However, what we are witnessing is the militarization of police for what looks like brutal martial law training. Why else would we see such senseless acts of violence being committed by police against American citizens all across the country?

The Data Says It Is Time for the Public to Act

The CATO Institute’s National Police Misconduct Reporting Project, in 2010 there were 4,861 reports of police misconduct involving 6,613 sworn officers and 6,826 alleged victims.

The question of police discipline is one of the fox watching the hen house. Far too often the police are left to discipline themselves. Many communities who are dissatisfied with police departments’ internal discipline procedures have created volunteer police watch groups to prevent the police from hiding behind the discipline offered by colleagues as they hide behind the “thin blue line”, which serves to protect fellow officers accused of wrongdoing.

Coupled with the paramilitary design of the police bureaucracy itself, the police give in to what is already a serious problem in the ranks: the belief that the increasing use of power against a citizen is always justified no matter the violation. The police don’t understand that in many instances they are the cause of the escalation and bear more responsibility during an adverse outcome. The Solution Is to Film Cops in the Performance of Their Duties

As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. Police should be filmed in the performance of their duty so there is no question as to whether the police are applying excessive force and are following the Constitution.

We can no longer trust cops to operate on their own authority. They must wear cameras.

In Minneapolis, the city government voted to spend $25,000 to have cops wear cameras in the performance of their duties. City Council member, Betsy Hodges, said that the city will ultimately save money from lessening the number of law suits.

Film Cops and Get Life In Prison

Unfortunately, many police are not warm to the idea of being filmed in the performance of their duties. However, it is perfectly legal to film cops so long as they are not interfered with, as nobody in public has an expectation of privacy. Yet, the law has not stopped some cops from abusing their authority and arresting people for harmlessly filming officers in the performance of their duty.

Michael Allison, recorded police officers on duty in his front yard inspecting vehicles he was repairing. The police cited Allison for failing to properly register his vehicles, and so he requested an ordinance review hearing. Allison now faces five felony counts, with each count carrying a penalty for 15 years in prison. For videotaping police and a court proceeding, Allison faces an unbelievable total of 75 years, or the rest of his life in prison under Illinois new eavesdropping statutes.

Conclusion

Clearly, the tide of increasing and deadly police brutality must be stemmed in America. The solutions that should be invoked are

(1) invoke the 10th Amendment and forbid DHS to train local law enforcement;

(2) repeal the legislation which permits the military and DHS to donate military hardware to local police departments, it is not needed and promotes a paramilitary attitude towards police work;

(3) establish a citizen review board which will have authority over all complaints regarding police brutality. The police can NO longer be allowed to judge their own; and,

(4) require all on-duty police to wear cameras.

These simple actions could go a long way towards re-establishing civilian control over too many departments which are clearly out of control and are serving to endanger the public as opposed to serving the public.

Shouldn’t the Police Have a “Do Not Fire Unless Fired Upon” Rule?

I'm bordering on hating the police state, and I'm the type of person who wishes away all forms of hate. It seems like there's a new police abuse story everyday, worse than the last.


It's gotten to where I despise watching, posting, and sharing police brutality videos. I may stop clicking on them altogether for the same reason I don't watch horror movies: you can't un-see something, and I don't enjoy knowingly exposing myself to fear or hate.

In one sense I feel a duty to inform people of the growing tyranny, but in another sense I think it feeds exactly what the establishment wants — outrage and retaliatory violence — to justify its own brutality. The swelling police state is like a fat bully on the playground who pokes you over and over again with a stick until you've finally had enough, rip the stick out of his hand, and beat the shit out of him with it. The government seems to be bullying citizens into responding in kind.

According to a new report, "Since 9/11, about 5,000 Americans have been killed by U.S. police officers, which is almost equivalent to the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed in the line of duty in Iraq."

At this point, I could really spice up this article with individual examples of police abuse and some explicit videos, but I'm not going to. If you are reading this then you already know they're out there including on this site. Most importantly, you understand it is a top-down vision that guides the abuse, not a few bad apples. Not anymore.


When faced with a "threat" the shoot-first, shoot-to-kill policy is now taught to police and other national law enforcement. Do you remember all the old war movies and cop shows? Marching orders were always "do not fire unless fired upon" to position them selves as noble good guys hoping to avoid killing, but ready to defend. 

We should return the country's lawmen to this policy.  If you take fire, then you can fire back. If not, keep the safety on. Call it gun control for law enforcement. All it would take is a very simple law or even just the vision to implement this through public pressure.

In our current court system, the police are always given the benefit of the doubt in any mistaken shooting case. After all, they're supposed to be the good guys. But, remember, good guys don't shoot first even if "threatened". Who said being a cop wasn't dangerous? Sorry, cops, but that's the sacrifice you must make for the honor to patrol a civilized society at our expense. You may one day take a bullet, although it's highly unlikely, but you will still be the good guy.  Probable cause, a warrant, and even a threat of deadly force is not enough reason to strike first.

If you're like me, you're past the outrage phase of the police state but don't know what else to do for solutions besides informing people of what's happening. Petitions and politics are almost useless. However, all campaigns can be used to inform people so they're never futile.

I propose that we turn our rage into crowd sourcing a simple law that would prohibit domestic law enforcement from firing the first bullet in any dispute. We, the people, write the actual law and lobby for it. Pressure someone like Rep Justin Amash to introduce it in Congress to bring some publicity to it.

I don't necessarily care if it ever becomes a "law," I just want to make enough noise so the first thing everyone thinks when they watch a police abuse video is "cops should never be allowed to strike first" in any situation. Police should not be a strike force. Those that are should be shunned and replaced.

As Americans, we were promised the right to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. The pursuit to Happiness is largely subjective, but the root and mechanics to success have largely eroded this right. Meanwhile, there are very few individual Liberties remaining. But you would think we can muster up some energy to preserve our right to Life for goodness sake.

Something must be done to stop police abuse or it will boil over into more violence. At this point I'm willing to try anything to peacefully end the police state.

As a child growing up in a household where my Mother was inciting her drunk husband to beat her senseless, and leaving it up to me to call for help, or later when I grew up to intervene personally. I saw police officer’s as the good guys, and when one of my step-fathers was too enraged to obey them, I never saw any brutality; only enough force was used to stop the fight. This same scenario was repeated with seven step-fathers, until I reached the legal age to leave, which was sixteen. I can’t recall how many ass whippings I received trying to protect her, and never once saw an officer beat the crap out of these worthless pieces of shit. Today, even the slightest threat would be the end of a life, and no cop has the right to be a judge and jury when it comes to ending a human’s life. If they don’t have the balls or ability to work under reasonable restraint, they don’t belong in the job. Personally, I have lived a violent life and never killed anyone, but at this advanced stage of my life (73) I will shoot to kill anyone coming through my door by force. I stay ready around the clock to defend my wife, home, and my own life. If I have to die a criminal, so be it, but these present day assholes in combat gear, with the desire to be recognized as bad asses among their peers will have to PAY A PRICE TO ADD MY OLD ASS TO THEIR LIST. Not until enough American’s reach the stage of not backing down to their brutality, and send a few bad cops to the morgue, will the powers that be begin to back down and return to reasonable force. They think we are all too brain washed to defend our selves, but they will pay a price for this mistake. The next question will be, what kind of reporting will the lap-dogs in the news media put out?

Screwing around with trying to pass laws is pissing in the wind. Get armed and capable, then, protect yourself, because they will not protect you. They will kill and rob you, given the slightest chance. Remember the civil forfeiture statutes! Remember, they work for a corporation that usurped your government. An eye for an eye works for me! Remember, you don’t need a permit; the second amendment gave you the right to be armed wherever you are, and no-one has the right to deny you that. Don’t let the liars in government or media fool you. The bottom line is, do you have the balls to be an American? That’s all you need, to be a free man, so tell the politician’s to go piss up a rope.
